Author, former offender among speakers

Children who kill are called "super predators," "people with no conscience," "feral pre-social beings" -- and "adults."
William Ayers, author of A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court (Beacon Press, 1997), says "We should call a child a child. A 13-year-old who picks up a gun isn't suddenly an adult. We have to ask other questions: How did he get the gun? Where did it come from?"
Ayers, who spent a year observing the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago, is one of four panelists who will speak on juvenile justice at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the C-Shop. The panel, which marks the 100th anniversary of the juvenile justice system in the United States, is part of the Community Service Center's monthly discussion series on issues affecting the city of Chicago. The event is free and open to the public.
Ayers will be joined by Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School, who is working to combat legislation that would put more juvenile offenders into the adult system; Randolph Stone, Director of the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic; Alex Correa, a reformed juvenile offender who spent seven years in Cook County Temporary Detention Center; Frank Tobin, a former priest and teacher at the Detention Center who helped Correa; and Willy Baldwin, who grew up in public housing and is currently a teacher at the Detention Center.
The juvenile justice system was founded by Chicago reformer Jane Addams, who advocated the establishment of a separate court system for children which would act like a "kind and just parent" for children in crisis.
One hundred years later, the system is "overcrowded, under-funded, over-centralized and racist," Ayers said.
Michelle Obama, Associate Dean of Student Services and Director of the University Community Service Center, hopes bringing issues like this to campus will open a dialogue between members of the University community and the broader community.
"Students and faculty explore these issues in the classroom, but it is an internal conversation," Obama said. "We know that issues like juvenile justice impact the city of Chicago, this nation and -- directly or indirectly -- this campus. This panel gives students a chance to hear about the juvenile justice system not only on a theoretical level, but from the people who have experienced it."

Sorry if this is inconvenient -- but it looks like the GOP is beginning to try to link Obama to Ayers, and this is a bit of what looks like good, independent, corroborating evidence, from long *BEFORE* anyone heard of Obama.
I just tried to think of a bunch of names I remember corresponding with given that I'm up way too late in the middle of the night to think or remember everyone clearly...

FINALLY - We have 0's ties to Ayers, his attitudes towards law enforcement and his attitudes towards violent crimes all wrapped up into one easy to understand thing.
And it doesn't read like it was written by a right wing conspiracy theorist trying to copy a left wing conspiracy theorist. Just straight up factual reporting.

From what I’ve been reading this guy who lives in the same neighborhood as Obama is extremely valued in Obama’s life, and vice versa. Apparently has been a valued relationship for considerable time. Wondering what that bond is. How it became?
Most often such deep friendships are due similarities of life perspectives, but what was the budding moment of this association, this friendship in their history? I s’pose we’ll never know to that extent.
Looking forward to reading more about the bond between these two individuals. Normally I could care less about personal relationships, I’m not into the Oprah thing, but this is apparently more than Supermarket checkout stand reading material. It’s essential to the persuit of knowledge about the man whom could become the leader of what currently is the Free World.
Practically speaking, children who kill can be described as one or more of the following:
1) Reckless
2) Psychopathic
3) Mentally Ill
4) Sociopathic
5) Accidental
6) Indifferent
All of these vary considerably in both degree and actualization. That is, everyone is to some degree reckless, for example, but only in a small minority does that recklessness lead to harm to themselves or others; or does it show great potential to do so in the future; or it cannot be mitigated by changing behavior.
Many people are likewise psychopathic or mentally ill or indifferent, but have trained themselves not to express themselves in harmful ways, and even to conceal their situation by feigning expected social behavior.
Sociopathic, or “trained anti-social behavior” is perhaps the easiest dangerous behavior to correct, once they are separated from whoever has trained them, and they are given new training.
But the bottom line is that, in any case, consideration of these problems is secondary to both societies need for reimbursement of costs associated with their behavior; and even more importantly, to insure that such behavior is never again expressed. Until these two things have been accomplished, it is unwise to release such children back into society.
Their childhood is far less important than redress and protection against future offense. Even into adulthood, if these have not been achieved, “cleaning the slate” is unimportant. They do not magically improve on reaching their majority.
It must be individually determined, and those who make the determination must be held accountable for errors in judgment.

Obama can toss Ayers under the bus — or he can decide he’s through doing that, and knows he’s got enough support to turn the country into a single party state, as Ayers et al have desired for forty years.

Dohrn could not practice law per se; she was a law clerk for the law firm, which meant she could do just about anything but couldn't sign off on her work.
