I was intimately involved in the five-year process to pass the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act, testifying before committees twice that then-state Sen. Barack Obama sat on.
Following are 10 excuses Obama has given through the years for voting "present" and "no" on the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act, or BAIPA.
10. Babies who survive abortions are not protected by the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution.
Obama, the sole opponent ever to speak against BAIPA, stated on the Illinois Senate floor on March 30, 2001:
I just want to suggest ... that this is probably not going to survive constitutional scrutiny.Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a – child, a 9-month-old – child that was delivered to term. …
I mean, it – it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute. For that purpose, I think it would probably be found unconstitutional.

"The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right."
The platform used to be "safe, legal, and rare".
Now they expect taxpayers to foot the bill and the phrase "oppose all efforts to weaken or undermine that right" might be interpreted to mean partial-birth abortions and infanticide are protected forms of abortion.

It’s obvious to even the most casual observer that Sen. Obama’s views are pro-abortion.
But that also begs the question. So what has the GOP done to end the practice? Other than mouthing the words that we all want to hear? Years of GOP control produced little if any forward movement in ending the killing of unborn babies. So why should I or any of those who are pro-creation spend our time and treasure to support them?
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Don’t get me wrong. I won’t vote for and won’t support a pro-abortion politician. There are some things that simply aren’t going to happen. But just because one of the major parties is generally pro-abortion does not necessarily mean that the other party is going to actually do anything to end the practice.
When abortion ends in this country, it won’t be because of the actions of judges or politicians. It will be because American women will refuse to be a party to the death of their unborn children.

The Federal Born Alive Infant Protection Act was introduced primarily by Republicans. http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_aliv.htm Santorum (R-PA) introduced it in the Senate.

I guess preaching to the choir has some benefit. But there’s no one at this site, and likely the rest of the universe, who doesn’t know that Obama supports abortion.

They know he supports abortion but they might not know that he supports the killing by neglect of BABIES that survive the abortion procedure. The fact that he still leads in PA (pro-life) by 5 points is evidence of that.
