Democrats May Not Fair So Well in November
Marketwatch ^ | July 31, 2008 | PR Newswire

Posted on 07/31/2008 11:53:16 PM PDT by FocusNexus

While Gallup and other polls continue to show Barack Obama with a slight lead over John McCain, the extremely likely voters at U4prez.com don't appear to be so enthusiastic. The bigger news is that the perceived huge gains in congress for the Democrats are clearly in danger of becoming much smaller gains, and could turn in to losses of a few seats. The issue is of course oil.

If gas prices stay high, a few things are now becoming certain.

-- If the trend continues it's clear that Obama isn't going to win in a landslide, and would probably lose the election.

-- Extremely likely voters are more than disapproving of Congress right now. As we get closer to the election, the higher the price of oil, the better for Republicans.

The Republicans have an opportunity, if the pound it home, day after day between now and election day, and don't revert to their usual timidity.

It’s a close race now with 3 more months to go. All the Republicans have to do is keep pointing out that Dumbocrats do not want to drill, and that BO is a Euro-loving, socialist, racist Muslim.

We can hope. There actually is a realistic pickup in Oregon’s 5th congressional district. The incumbent Dem is retiring. The GOP holds a registration edge in the district. Maybe we can get a more realistic balance in Oregon after this cycle. Truth is the state is red except for Portland and Eugene.

It appears that people are tired of high oil prices. I think they feel like we’ve made progress on the environment and new technologies are on the way. Why not drill for enough oil to make life easier and not compromise national security?

Republicans could help their chances by the Obvious: running and governing as CONSERVATIVES.

The Democrats' stubborn opposition to cheap energy supplies is going to end up hurting them as Americans see them to be captive of affluent environmental extremists. Energy drives all other costs and the Democrats have an opportunity to get on the right side of the American people by embracing drilling at home, clean coal and nuclear power. But they doing exactly the opposite - which could come to blow up in their face in November.

I think you are exactly right. I keep sending email to Pelosi/Reid trying to explain that concept, but it just goes right over their heads!

Republicans need to “inflate” their “spine” and go hard. I think after the Olympics its going to happen. Co is tied, NH is tied.

Polls only seem to matter when the democrats win them, but I heard that 2/3 of Americans are for increasing our own domestic drilling. How can congressional democrats be ahead when they are all adamantly against drilling? The GOP must pound this point.

Obama stated clearly: we don’t need to drill when inflating our tires would save the same amount - uh, ya know?

And, so many of us just cannot understand why Nancy Pelosi is blocking the drilling for our own resources to save our economy when such a majority of Americans want that. In our current emergency situation, that kind of stubborn reglect to pay attention in a Democratic society scares people into thinking we might be heading into some kind of dictatorship. The Democratic Congress just seems to thumb their noses at us without caring that their approval rating is down on the ground..Why not?

There’s a thought.

Hoping oil prices stay high is unrealistic...but that whole idea of governing and running as conservatives just might work.

Suddenly, I am not willing to give up on the NJ-7 district being vacated by Mike Ferguson (R).

Oh, and by the way, Linda Stender is a big fat Spender!
