We can hope. There actually is a realistic pickup in Oregon’s 5th congressional district. The incumbent Dem is retiring. The GOP holds a registration edge in the district. Maybe we can get a more realistic balance in Oregon after this cycle. Truth is the state is red except for Portland and Eugene.

Energy drives all other costs and the Democrats have an opportunity to get on the right side of the American people by embracing drilling at home, clean coal and nuclear power. The Democrats also have an opportunity here. Suddenly about face on oil drilling and open ANWR and the coasts. The price of oil will slide significantly on the news and the Democrats will get kudos and hosanna and elected. Once they are in control all over after November, they can take it all back. McCain has to put the demand to drill at fever pitch before the Crats can do all that so he can save some of the credit for himself.
