New law for Old Glory

Last update: July 03, 2007 – 1:07 PM

By year's end, a new law will require every Old Glory sold in Minnesota stores to be American made. It's the latest and strongest attempt by states to stem imports of foreign-made U.S. flags.

The law's sponsor, Democratic Rep. Tom Rukavina, said the flag deserves extra protection. To celebrate his legislative victory, he plans to hand out 1,000 miniature flags at Fourth of July parades in his district.

The new law doesn't spell out a penalty for violators. In Minnesota, the default punishment for prohibited acts is a misdemeanor offense, carrying up to a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.

LOL! I can see it now: Flag shortages on the Fourth of July! Flag police confiscating black market flags and ticketing their owners!

This is just plain silly. More flags, fewer legislators, seems the better plan.

Rukivina is an Iron Range dyed in the wool socialist, unionist, democrat.

And he'll need to import some more Minnesotans to fly those flags since he's a reliable vote to diminish their numbers according to Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.

Now if we can add tv’s,automobiles, and a zillion other things to that list we might get some jobs back !!!

So you advocate for more government control instead of allowing for personal freedoms?

I’m sure that would be acceptable...Maybe even the suggested option. Why don’t you contact Democratic Rep. Tom Rukavina and ask.

I’d sure like to know how they plan to enforce this. I don’t know that my flags have any kind of tag on them to say where they were made.

I don’t ADVOCATE for government control of anything. I was just making a point there isn’t much manufacturing being done in the USA now for anything !!!

Your post clearly says you want the government to make it mandatory to purchase certain goods only made in the USA. Do you deny that?

It’s pretty hard to deny something that’s in black and white.
