Democrats are not caring for their Stars and Stripes. At least that’s the message out of John McCain’s campaign. McCain supporters, claiming they rescued 12,000 miniature American flags from the site of Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday, redistributed the orphan flags to audience members ahead of a McCain rally in Colorado Springs on Saturday. The move was an overt swipe at Obama from a campaign whose motto has been “country first.” But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were not going to be discarded — but instead were snatched from the site of Obama’s historic address to carry...

IT’S A GRAND OLD RAG TO DENVER DEMS The Dem festivities were ened, the charade was done. The original lyrics from George M. Cohan’s “You’re a Grand Old Flag” referred to our flag as “a grand old rag,” using Civil War era slang, which Cohan changed following objections. Denver Democrats apparently preferred the original version. The party was over and it was time to trash all those flags, said the plain old delegates, the super delegates, the superduper delegates. Now, what to do with the damned things? It was bad enough that they had to wave them and pretend they...

Hundreds of flags that were discarded by the DNC and headed to the trash were rescued and are being given out today at the McCain-Palin Rally in CO. It is unclear as to how the flags were discovered, some were reportedly discovered by a vendor by a dumpster. The flags were stuffed into dozens of black garbage bags and others were crammed into a supply closet awaiting disposal...Developing details...

This will not sit well with many. Here’s a rundown of my night at convention: 2:55 p.m. — After a long walk, I reach the huge white tents where we have to go through the scanning and search routine. There are dumpsters filling up with stuff people can’t take into the stadium. I notice umbrellas and even American flags thrown in the trash cans. (Ironically, everyone inside was handed an American flag.) This story is now breaking.
-
It was planned down to the most minute detail. The food, the biodegradable paper signs and banners, everything was planned to delight the greenest of green environmentalists. Along the way, they forgot just one minor thing, the Red White and Blue. On the floors of convention halls, our Colors were trashed and abandoned. Workers, Boy Scouts, and perhaps even a few embarrassed Democrats had to clean up the mess. The metaphor should be evident to all, and it is a shame that our Boy scouts have to witness such disrespect to our country and its flag. I hope they take...

John McCain’s presidential campaign appears prepared to chastise Democrats over leaving behind piles of miniature American flags after Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday in Denver. Boy Scouts reportedly have arrived with at least two dozen trash bags full of the flags at the site of a McCain rally scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs.

This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story. “What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags,” a Republican official emailed. “We estimate...

Just heard on Fox News. The Boy Scouts filled dozens of large trash bags with US Flags that were trampled on the ground or thrown near trash receptacles at the Democrat Convention. They are going to hold a flag-retirement ceremony to properly honor those flags that were dishonored.

The libs hate it when people point out examples of flag abuse. It probably galls them because they view it as a piece of cloth or paper, and, after all, how can anybody be offended when somebody bites, folds, tears, mutilates, or devours a piece of cloth or paper? They hate being nailed on it because they think a bunch of yahoos will question their patriotism. Hmmm. So, since fomenting liberal angst is one of greatest sporting events known to man, and we lettered in that particular event, here goes. From Red State (part from email alert, part from link)....

Obama has distorted a criticism in order to refute it. He was roundly criticized when he REMOVED the huge American flag painted on the tail of his plane and REPLACED with his personal logo, "the Big Fat Zero". When criticized for REMOVING the flag, the "Fight the Smears" website re-framed the criticism as: "Barack Obama has been attacked for not having an American Flag on his campaign airplane." But that was NOT the wording, or intent, of the alleged "attack". He was "attacked" for replacing the (huge) American Flag on the tail with his own personal logo, not for having...

The Sudanese 'Lost Boy' refugee will lead the U.S. contingent in the opening ceremony Friday at the 2008 Games. Lomong is a member of Team Darfur, co-founded by Olympic speed skater Joey Cheek. BEIJING (Reuters) - The United States chose former Sudanese refugee Lopez Lomong to carry their flag at Friday’s Olympic opening ceremony in a move that could embarrass Sudan and its ally China. Lomong, who spent 10 years in a refugee camp after fleeing his native Sudan as a child, was given the honor after a vote by the team captains of the entire U.S. Olympic squad. “This is the most exciting day ever in my life,” Lomong said in a statement by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) on Wednesday. “It is a great honor for me that my team...

HOW OBAMA HAS IMPROVED HIS CAMPAIGN PLANEJuly 24, 2008Sean Robins NewsBusters has a report today on campaign and reportorial analysis by ABC's Jake Tapper ("Obama Thinks He's President; Denies Media Access") Tapper, who is about as reasonable as an MSMer working for ABC News can be, is all in a snit about how the Obama campaign has been treating reporters, especially those ensconced in Obama One for his "Tour of Duty" through the Middle East and Europe. Obama, as we've been reading the past few days, has been frightfully unavailable to reporters (I think I've even heard a bunch of...

I mean Barack H. Obama is doing some pretty wacky things on this tour. Sitting in Head of state chairs, negotiating foreign policy, utilizing terrorist organizations for security, issuing dress code to the paparazzi, I mean media, hehe, speaking from historic monuments in Germany, all as if he were the actual POTUS? But this must be the best (Worst) thing yet! Of course I hedge that bet as we are only into day two, so we do have some more fun in store I'm sure. That being said, it seems our Jr Senator has decided to remove the US flag...

As part of a month-long aircraft makeover, a painted American flag was removed from the tail of Sen. Barack Obama's official campaign airplane and was replaced with the presidential candidate's trademark "O" symbol. The refurbished 757 was unveiled to members of the news media today, 41 of whom boarded the craft and took off to meet Obama in Amman, Jordan, where the presidential candidate will stop as part of a Middle Eastern and European tour. Obama traveled to the Mideast earlier this week on board a separate airplane. Fox News blogger Bonny Kapp, traveling on Obama's new airplane, reported: "The...

Sally, a nickname bestowed upon Barack Obama’s chartered 757 by some in the traveling press, has returned to service after undergoing a month-long makeover for the general election. Her inaugural flight - sans candidate - will be to Amman, Jordan, with a refuel stop in Ireland. There are 69 passengers on board, including 38 members of the press, Secret Service agents, and Obama staffers, including several of Obama’s top foreign policy advisors. The North American jet that flew Obama and his traveling crew around for much of the primary season was refurbished with new seats and power for each passenger...

WASHINGTON - The American flag has many labels: Stars and stripes. Old Glory. And sometimes, made in China. Congress can't halt the flow of Chinese-made flags, but lawmakers can try to control where they are flown. The House declared Monday that any flag flown on federal property should be made in the U.S.A. "It's not a major problem facing the nation," admitted Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif. "But it's an irritant." Chinese-made flags seemed to pop up everywhere after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. People rushed to show their sense of patriotism by buying American flags, and U.S. manufacturers couldn't...

Tired of having his patriotism questioned, the Democratic candidate has made Old Glory a major visual element of his campaign.Barack Obama, who once considered flag pins a shallow symbol, can't surround himself with enough patriotic trappings these days. At the Fourth of July parade here, Obama sat in the reviewing stand with his wife and two young daughters, admiring the simple floats dedicated to rescue workers and local high schools. He seldom goes out in public now without a flag pin stuck in his lapel. He devoted an entire speech to patriotism this week in Independence, Mo. Visually reinforcing the...

Oh, say can you see? It's the original Star Spangled Banner - ready to be unfurled again after a decade-long restoration project. It was a clear autumn morning on September 18, 1814, when Francis Scott Key caught sight of the "broad stripes and bright stars" flying over Fort McHenry in Maryland, inspiring him to write our national anthem. In preparation for the impending battle with British naval forces, Maj. George Armistead, the fort's commanding officer, had requested a flag "so large that the British will have no difficulty in seeing it from a distance." That it was: The flag was 30-by-42...

Resolved, that the Flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the Union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation. With these words, on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the flag of the United States of America. Flag Day has since been partly eclipsed by other American traditions and holidays, and although it is still celebrated by numerous families and in many parts of the country, it has been forgotten by too many. I, however, will never forget Flag Day. On June 14, 2005, on...

Since 1969, a U.S. flag has been flying high on a tall pole in front of the Mitchell family home in Brea. "It's been up there every day," says Jane Mitchell, 73. "Except for a week when a storm brought down the pole and we had to replace it." Flag Day is Saturday, but many Orange County residents choose to display their pride every day of the year by decorating their homes with a flag. Charles and Rosemary Kissel display up to 13 flags at a time at their Anaheim home. The couple has a collection of about 300 U.S....

Most U.S. school children grow up knowing the story of Betsy Ross, who may or may not have sewn the first American flag, based on a sketch given to her by George Washington. But what about Francis Hopkinson, Mary Pickersgill or Samuel Reid, all of whom played roles in the history of the flag? Or Bernard Cigrand, who may have been the first to celebrate the birthday of the flag and led the movement to make Flag Day, June 14, a national observance? In her lifetime, Ross herself never claimed to have sewn the first flag. Only in 1870 did...

CLERMONT, Fla. -- A Central Florida war veteran faces a lawsuit for flying the American flag in his front yard. "I don't understand why it would bring down the values of our homes by flying the American flag from a pole in my front yard," homeowner Jimmie Watkins said. The former retired U.S. Navy communications officer said he refuses to back down for the American flag. "Our people are serving today to give...

Yesterday The Ticket broke the stunning news of America's acquisition of seven, maybe eight, new states, according to future president Barack Obama. He was speaking at the start of a two-day swoop through Oregon, which is already a state. In Beaverton, which is not a state yet, the Democrat let it slip that during this marathon 16-month party presidential nomination struggle against a bunch of dropouts and this female political zombie from New York who won't surrender short of a silver stake, he had already visited 57 states with one more to go. That's not counting the existing states of...

A seven-year-old photograph of Barack Obama associate and onetime radical bombmaker William Ayers stomping on an American flag is all over the Internet, earning criticism from Obama’s presidential campaign. The senator’s campaign spokesman said Obama is “appalled by the disrespect” to Old Glory, but decried efforts to associate Obama to the action just because the men know each other. “Senator Obama is appalled by this disrespect of a flag we love and that so many have fought and died for. There is no excuse for anyone to treat that which we hold so dear with so little regard. But the...

Hey, Wasn't Everybody Stepping on American Flags Back in 2001? Marathon Pundit finds a photo of Obama's friend, donor, and former fellow board member Bill Ayers, stepping on an American flag.
