New law for Old Glory

Last update: July 03, 2007 – 1:07 PM

By year's end, a new law will require every Old Glory sold in Minnesota stores to be American made. It's the latest and strongest attempt by states to stem imports of foreign-made U.S. flags.

The law's sponsor, Democratic Rep. Tom Rukavina, said the flag deserves extra protection. To celebrate his legislative victory, he plans to hand out 1,000 miniature flags at Fourth of July parades in his district.

The new law doesn't spell out a penalty for violators. In Minnesota, the default punishment for prohibited acts is a misdemeanor offense, carrying up to a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.

Nothing like removing more of our freedoms.

The democrats find it acceptable to burn, stomp on and piss on the flag, yet it BETTER be one MADE in the USA!

Well said my FRiend.

Old Glory flies high at my abode and as to where it is made doesn't create a concern for my spirit in it.

I respect it for what it represents.

Does it count if they are made in the USA in a sweat shop by illegal Mexican immigrants?

How does he handle his liquor?

As long as he doesn't drink and drive he can't be all that bad as a legislature can he?

Interesting but not surprising. Rukavina is a typical Range Democrat moron. Funny how not a word about this came out until they got it passed and signed.

American flags should be made in third world countries - those kids are starving.

Yes, and the "made in" tag should be pi$$ed on, burned, trampled, and held with disdain while our flag is flying high.

We are the greatest nation because we tote more freedom than most others and we should keep it that way.

Those starving kid's depend upon a strong and free nation for their moral being because of the personal compassion created by a country with personal rights.

That's fair. Tags mean nothing to me.
