Remaining:
• Hunter
• Romney
• Gilmore
• Huckabee

I agree completely. And I'd add Fred Thompson to the mix.

Agreed. But I think in the end, I'll probably lean more with Hunter on trade and globalism than with Thompson.
Can't wait til he actually gets in this race to start the discussion!

I’d call it Huckabee, Hunter, Tancredo, Thompson

Off my list:
Paul, Romney, Guilliani and McCain

Huckabee was very good. Gilmore is exceptionally competent. Hunter did OK but not enough face time. Mitt won some votes I think. McCain not so good. Rudy was Chris’ target and he took some hits. I like Sam but he’s got border problems. Tancredo very choppy. Thompson fell right into the lefty trap on casualties and deservedly so if he doesn’t know how many KIA and WIA we have had. Ron Paul running on the ticket that puts a bullseye on the flag and says “Bomb Here”.

Guys like Tancredo, Paul, Tommy, Gilmore, Hunter, etc. will pull low single digits and will drop out one by one by mid April next year.

And that is JUST the way it is going to be.

The final top ones slugging it out will by Giuliani, McCain, Fred Thompson, Romney.

One of those four will then go on to do the one-on-one with Hitlery or O(b/s)ama.

There will be a third party bedrock conservative alternative, but not on enough state ballots nationwide to signify and ability to get enough electoral votes, therefore irrelevant. These will be our final choices.

Ron Paul is conservative, or libertarian, either way he has my respect. But in my opinion we have to fight the war on terror.

If you disagree, mea culpa. You can cut the “exactly” but leave the rest.

Quick Analysisi: Undecided leaning Fred Thompson is my bias.

1)The media take is nothing changed with the 3 leaders (I disagree)
2)The media take is of the “other” challengers, nobody set themselves apart (I agree)

1)McCain looked old, tentative and grasping for the language he has used in the Sentate for along time (I think he hurt himself the most because his age can’t be changed)
2)Giuliani was fair but very defensive on his liberal positions on abortion and stem cell...(No major gaffes but I think he hurt himself moderately with the issues that will drag on him throughout a GOP Primary, abortion)
3) The winner, was Mitt Romney. (He looked Presidential and was confident in his answers. He appeared aggresive on fighting WOT...and he seemed genuine and hammered his pro family theme. )

*The “others” were undistinguised. Some had good answers but none really stood out. They can’t play it safe like the top 3, they need to be aggressive and get recognized. Of the “others” I think Huckabee,Gilmore did the best and Duncan Hunter did OK...They all need to be more telegenic and get noticed...Just my opinion...Kind of neutral since I’m undecided but leaning Fred Thompson.

But I want to know how he would cut taxes and spending in Congress.

Yeah, too bad he had the gall to answer the question that was put to him, instead of giving the speech you had written for him in your mind. Good grief, man.

Because Ron Paul is where my heart is, when it comes to conservatism, but he is too ineffectual unfortunately. Huckabee and Gilmore are liberals by comparison.

Very true. I was appalled by Paul's response on Scooter Libby, though. To me it was very revealing of his mindset and approach.

"Romney is quite a polished public speaker, however who knows if he’ll change his positions tomorrow."

He can't and won't. He's more locked into his present positions than any other candidate. And I like polished. : )

Ron Paul came across as the cranky next door neighbor or the senile old uncle. He is a joke.
I got that impression, too. Moments of lucidity and then *wham* the nutcase emerges.

That's Paul, all right.

I am glad that he (Fred Thompson) was not there. He should let these other candidates, particularly, McCain and Guiliani discredit themselves and then get in. In a few weeks both of these candidates will have been severely damaged and only Romney will remain. I think he can shine against any of these candidates but when only one major candidate remains he will walk away.

>>MSNBC is concentrating on how the candidates distanced themselves from Bush. As usual, it’s all about tearing down Bush.<<

Very rarely can they handle ideas in the media, it seems. They’d rather discuss trashy gossip, per usual.
