9/11 Panel Members Weren’t Told of Meeting

October 1, 2006 9/11 Panel Members Weren’t Told of Meeting By PHILIP SHENON

WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 — Members of the Sept. 11 commission said today that they were alarmed that they were told nothing about a White House meeting in July 2001 at which George J. Tenet, then the director of central intelligence, is reported to have warned Condoleezza Rice, then the national security adviser, about an imminent Al Qaeda attack and failed to persuade her to take action.

Details of the previously undisclosed meeting on July 10, 2001, two months before the Sept. 11 terror attacks, were first reported last week in a new book by the journalist Bob Woodward.

The final report from the Sept. 11 commission made no mention of the meeting nor did it suggest there had been such an encounter between Mr. Tenet and Ms. Rice, now secretary of state.

Since release of the book, “State of Denial,” the White House and Ms. Rice have disputed major elements of Mr. Woodward’s account, with Ms. Rice insisting through spokesmen that there had been no such exchange in a private meeting with Mr. Tenet and that he had expressed none of the frustration attributed to him in Mr. Woodward’s book.

“It really didn’t match Secretary Rice’s recollection of the meeting at all,” said Dan Bartlett, counselor to President Bush, in an interview on the CBS News program “Face the Nation.”

“It kind of left us scratching our heads because we don’t believe that’s an accurate account,” he said.

Liberals and their media are desperate beyond belief for them to bring this meaningless issue thinking that they can win elections based on it.

commission members said they were never told about the meeting despite hours of public and private questioning with Ms. Rice, Mr. Tenet and Mr. Black

Rice didn't tell them, Tenet didn't tell them.

But Woodward tells them, and they believe it.

Yeah, like maybe Bob Woodward?

But then he's let Scooter Libby twist in the wind for two years.

Why would Tenet fail to bring this meeting up to the 9/11 commission? The meeting makes him look like he was on the ball with Al Qaeda. Instead the world sees him as "slam dunk" Tenet.

Anyone that believes this is 51 cards short in a deck. This is another national guard story, plame affair, that is put out there by the liberals. Will not work because most americans have made up their minds about the donks, and they do not like their leadership or the direction they will take this country. The donks are about to have their asses handed to them again this election.

In June or July of 2001, there were news reports that a major attack on U.S. soil was imminent. They weren't sure of who, what, when, where why, and how though. They just knew it was going to happen. THIS WAS IN THE NEWS. I am certain that Tenet discussed it with Rice. The Bush administration couldn't act quickly enough because they were still trying to get their government together after the multiple recounts forced by Gore in Florida caused them to run way behind on schedule. I sincerely believe that the administration would have had a better handle on this if not for the 2000 Florida Fiasco.

The Gore campaign is to blame for this. It could have been worse, the Clintonites tried to usurp our Democratic Republic and attempted a coup. They were unsuccessful. This was a dangerous precedent and I think they will try it again.

Don't look for them to concede any future (especially close) Presidential Election very easily. John Kerry waited till the following morning, about 8AM or so before he did, and it wasn't even close. His people were also making false claims about disenfranchisement in Ohio when it was clear that he wasn't going to win.

Intel networks were probably reporting "imminent" attacks by al Qaeda every day for the 10 years preceding Bush 43's taking office. It depends on what is "imminent" about the word "imminent"

I just don't know what Woodward is trying to accomplish here. He's in the twilight of what I loosely refer to as his journalism career. I thought he turned the corner with his excellent "Bush at War" book but I guess that was a desert mirage. Oh well once a lib always a lib.

To: indianrightwinger

There's really nothing at all new here, although the Libs/MSM are trying desperately to generate some political friction out of Woodward's book.

For example, recall that Richard Clarke, self-enamored metrosexual poser that he is, made basically the same type of accusation against Condi, and expressed it in the same type of proto-typical Lib expression, i.e., Clarke claimed that at some meeting Condi "seemed unaware" (emphasis on the soft observation "seemed") of the existence of Al-Qaeda. Also recall that Clarke's observation was proven absolutely false based on established fact, i.e, Condi definitely knew who Al-Qaeda was.

And now again, we have an accusation wrapped around a soft perception of a presumed emotional state. In the hard world known as "reality", there's nothing being expressed here except the imagined soft impressions expressed by people with an obvious axe to grind, all conflated into a pseudo-fact.

So what are we left with? One thing is clear: in the Oprah-ized unverse of the Dems, feelings are the same things as facts. in fact, they are more genuine.

I wonder more just what Rove has up his sleeve to blows these moonbats out of the water.

The moonbats are gonna be sorry. President Bush has plenty of ammunition to sink em. OReilly spoke of this years ago, wondering why President Bush had not used it against clinton

The supporters of our enemies are gonna wish they had co-operated more, supported our troops and not leaked intellingence secrets to benefit the terrorists. Plus everything else they have said and done against this Adm.

President Bush wanted to work with the other side(I refuse to call them democrats) for the good of our country. They would have none of it.

President Bush is a patient man,a man of faith, but never forget he is smart, clever and one good poker player. Or is it chess?

Hilllary will never be president of this United States. The era of the clinton is over.

God Bless America and our wonderful brave troops!

I agree. It is another desperate attempt by the DBM to appear to make the eight months of George W. Bush's term more responsible for 9-11 than the eight years of Bill Clinton's terms. As I have said before, Presidents at least as far back as Jimmy Carter all could have done more to address terrorism.

Although 9-11 was one of the most horrible things that has ever happened to our country, I think that fighting over whose fault it was is completely missing the most important lesson we should have learned from that attack - THESE PEOPLE WANT TO KILL US AND DESTROY OUR WAY OF LIFE. It is imperative that we succeed in Iraq because that is where it appears that the jihadists have chosen to fight the infidels (namely the US and the rest of the civilized world). We can not afford to give them the victory they so desperately seek by giving up in Iraq before the mission is complete. They know that the only way that they can win is if they can get us to quit.

As long as President Bush is the POTUS, I know that HE will not quit, but if the Dems are able, by hook or crook, to steal enough seats to take over the HOR, they can cut off the funding as they did in Vietnam. WE MUST NOT LET THAT HAPPEN! For the first time, I am not too excited about voting for my own representative, Walter B. Jones, because he has recently become so critical of the war, but he is so strong on immigration and other issues that I can not seriously consider any other possibility. I do not think that he would vote to cut off the funds for the war because he is such a strong supporter of the military. I encourage all of my fellow freepers to go out and vote to keep these imperfect Republicans in office because our country can not afford to have the Democrats in power at this critical time.

“None of this was shared with us in hours of private interviews, including interviews under oath, nor do we have any paper on this,” said Timothy J. Roemer, a Democratic member of the commission and a former House member from Indiana. “I’m deeply disturbed by this. I’m furious.”

Another Democratic commissioner, former Watergate prosecutor Richard Ben-Veniste, said that the staff of the Sept. 11 commission was polled in recent days on the disclosures in Mr. Woodward’s book and agreed that the meeting “was never mentioned to us.”

“This is certainly something we would have wanted to know about,” he said, referring to the July 10, 2001, meeting.

******

That's not all that wasn't shared with the "commission" you MORONS and you know it since you had one of the main people responsible for 9/11 sitting on the "commission".
