October 1, 2006 9/11 Panel Members Werent Told of Meeting By PHILIP SHENON
WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 Members of the Sept. 11 commission said today that they were alarmed that they were told nothing about a White House meeting in July 2001 at which George J. Tenet, then the director of central intelligence, is reported to have warned Condoleezza Rice, then the national security adviser, about an imminent Al Qaeda attack and failed to persuade her to take action.
Details of the previously undisclosed meeting on July 10, 2001, two months before the Sept. 11 terror attacks, were first reported last week in a new book by the journalist Bob Woodward.
The final report from the Sept. 11 commission made no mention of the meeting nor did it suggest there had been such an encounter between Mr. Tenet and Ms. Rice, now secretary of state.
Since release of the book, State of Denial, the White House and Ms. Rice have disputed major elements of Mr. Woodwards account, with Ms. Rice insisting through spokesmen that there had been no such exchange in a private meeting with Mr. Tenet and that he had expressed none of the frustration attributed to him in Mr. Woodwards book.
It really didnt match Secretary Rices recollection of the meeting at all, said Dan Bartlett, counselor to President Bush, in an interview on the CBS News program Face the Nation.
It kind of left us scratching our heads because we dont believe thats an accurate account, he said.

Liberals and their media are desperate beyond belief for them to bring this meaningless issue thinking that they can win elections based on it.
It seems to me that someone would have brought this up before the 9/11 commission.
And the hits just keep on coming. Wonder what other artillery the Dems have in their arsenal of lies?
I have an anonymous source that tells me Woodward pulled this out of his ....
I wonder more just what Rove has up his sleeve to blows these moonbats out of the water.
Dems are out of control, smelling blood in this election.
"so," asked the NYTIMES reporter, "have you stopped beating your wife?"
Rice didn't tell them, Tenet didn't tell them.
But Woodward tells them, and they believe it.
Yeah, like maybe Bob Woodward?
But then he's let Scooter Libby twist in the wind for two years.
WoodStein is just living his Watergate glory all over again, but failing miserably this time .... the sequel is never better than the original. /shrug
Not if the purpose of the Commission was a whitewash?
How else can you explain how Jamie Gorelick was a MEMBER of the commission,
instead of being a witness.
Royalties from this book should just about cover it.
Why would Tenet fail to bring this meeting up to the 9/11 commission? The meeting makes him look like he was on the ball with Al Qaeda. Instead the world sees him as "slam dunk" Tenet.
Anyone that believes this is 51 cards short in a deck. This is another national guard story, plame affair, that is put out there by the liberals. Will not work because most americans have made up their minds about the donks, and they do not like their leadership or the direction they will take this country. The donks are about to have their asses handed to them again this election.
It's a scandal-a-day from now until Election Day. Especially at the New York Times.
Why doesn't Woodward investigate why the Clinton Administration turned down capturing Osama four times?
Did he tell her when, where, how...something, anything that would tell the President what needed to be done?
And the kangaroo court (9/11 commission) is now listening to the words of whacko Woodward? Only in America could this be happening! Lord help us........
You are right. Woodward let an innocent man (Scooter) and men (Bush, Cheney, Rove) dangle in the wind for two years. Woodward has forever tarnished his reporting with this hit piece. He is a POS that that has no credibility left. He is a shill for the left. May god have mercy on his soul because I will not.
They should bring Woodward in and make him give sworn testimony about all these new revelations. On penalty of perjury.
