Yet you dirt bags continually try to ram "how evil the South was" down Southern throats.

And you would have us condemn the evil Lincoln...for much the same actions as those Jefferson Davis implemented. If Lincoln is sooooooo evil then why isn't ol' Jeff?

And I would imagine that if Lincoln had never instigated the war, then your assertion might (that is might as in the tiniest grain of truth) bear merit. But as things stand, we will never agree on it so you will continue to trumpet the praises of the Great Prevaricator.

I see this as a long-held Southern tradition to honor our fathers, same as the Lord wrote on stone tablets on Mount Sinai.

We should uphold the honor of such brave men and hold close in our hearts their sacrifice for protecting their families and homes. A car tag is the least we can do to remember their bravery.

Maybe you've just heard northern history, which considered Twiggs a traitor. Here is a Texas version: Twiggs

Information on the shouting came from newspaper reports.

Ah yes, the ever popular southern whine, vintage 1861. "Lincoln made us do it."

Very well stated and thank you!

More power to you. But at the same time I'm being told that my ancestors, who fought for the Union, were "dupes and buffoons."

Thank you, sir!

Just stopped in to check out the news this morning. We're having the family over today (entire extended family...) so I just started smoking about 15 lbs of pork on the smoker this AM. I figure about 6-8 hours. Beautiful day starting here down South...

Wonder when the pro-america anti-dixie folks who post here are going to realize where the phrase "band of brothers" comes from.

It's from Shakespeare. Henry V; Act IV, Scene 3. Unless you're arguing that the English flew the Confederate colors at the battle of Agincourt, I don't see what you're getting at.

We are a band of brothers
And native to the soil
Fighting for our liberty
With treasure blood, and toil
And when our rights were threatened,
The cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star!

The only ones pushing this neo-confederate, perpetual, pro-slavery rebellion, license plate crap are the leftover swamp dwelling crackers.

Whatever. Its your story, embellish it like you want. That seems to be a common trait among you Yankees.

Hey boner! I'm not a swamp dwelling cracker, nor am I a racist. You know nothing of me, which goes along with the obvious fact that you know nothing of history save for what you spew about "e-vile Southern Rebs." But here is a little edukashun for you ignorant small minded anal-retentive Yankee types about Massa Lincoln.

"Abraham Lincoln, as cited in "The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln," Roy Basler, ed. 1953 New Brunswick, N.J.: Rutgers University Press:
"I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races -- that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races from living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

"Abraham Lincoln 1859 [Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, Vol III, pp 399, Basler, ed.]
"Negro equality, Fudge!! How long in the Government of a God great enough to make and maintain this Universe, shall there continue to be knaves to vend and fools to gulp, so low a piece of demagoguism as this"

History of the administration of President Lincoln: including his speeches, letters, addresses, proclamations, and messages. With a preliminary sketch of his life; Raymond, Henry J.; 1864, New York, J. C. Derby & N. C. Miller, pp. 213 Pres. Lincoln's response of September 13, 1862, to a call for a General Emancipation:
"Would my word free the slaves, when I cannot even enforce the Constitution in the rebel States? And what reason is there to think it would have any greater effect upon the slaves than the late law of Congress, which I approved, and which offers protection and freedom to the slaves of rebel masters who come within our lines? Yet I cannot learn that the law has caused a single slave to come over to us."

Gee, I wonder why?

You're being much too modest. When it comes to embellishing the truth we take a back seat to the hard-core southeron supporter.

Beautiful day starting here down South...

It was a beautiful day in Southern California, too. Right up to the point where I had to climb up on the roof with a bucket of tar. Your day sounds more fun.
