"Sopranos...BAD"

You got that right. What the h... happened? My wife and I can't believe it. We used to eagerly await each episode in past seasons. Now after each of this season's episodes, we look at each other and comment on how boring that episode was. Was the creator, David Chase, on drugs when he thought up the stories for this season?

"I don't know about Korea. I was however a young adult during Viet Nam. And my recollection is the population was disconnected during it."

I been told that during the Korean war the kids where ask to do a newspaper drive. Not that it did much but I am sure it had some effect on the moral of the war effort at home.

I think this is a fantastic idea.

I like the point he is making. Perhaps in a roundabout way, he is saying to the POTUS to get tough and finish this thing off.

‘I see my hands’ is correct. James Gandolfini is part of the highly Religious Left.

Draft illegals, with amnesty and automatic citizenship after three years of service.

Was the war in Vietnam and Korea like this where the population was so disconnected?

The draft existed during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. That made everyone of draft age and their families involved.

The sense at home during the Korean War was more like Iraq. A far, far, war in a far, far land.

One way or another, though, everyone was involved in Viet Nam.

None of it like WW II. Ration cards for gas and butter, meatless Tuesday, couldn't buy a car for 5 or 6 years, everything was recycled, tin cans, string, rubber bands, the aluminum foil in a gum warpper. It was all war, all the time, 24/7.

If we ever had to fight another WW II I don't think we'd prevail, what with half the country in permanent appeasement mode.

Pretty big talk from a Hollywood multi-millionaire. Plenty of American families have sacrificed ALL THEY HAD since 9.11.

I don't think he means to belittle the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, or of their families.

But it is true that for the vast majority of Americans, the War in Iraq has not touched them in any kind of personal way. Our soldiers are fighting and dying there, but most Americans have not been inconvenienced one little bit.

I too like the point that he's making, however I disagree that an increase in troop strength will have any effect. I also disagree with his draft comments.

The problem with the draft is Sabotage. During the 60's we were fighting another war where this countries interests were again abandoned by the leftists in this country. The leftist true believer paltrooms were Fragging our own soldiers and tossing wrenches into the ships reduction gears. So we definitely dont need a draft.

And with regards to increasing troop numbers in iraq, that would be counterproductive. We are not fighting a war where we have a front to either defend or advance. This is guerilla warfare and an increase in troop strength just gives the terrorists a larger target aspect to strike. So with a smaller footprint in iraq the terrorists have little choice but to take aim at their own civilian population to 'send a message'. Now the civilian population is targeting terrorists along side our coalition forces.

I think Mr Gandolfini is trying to say that he'd like for bush to get tough, and with that I agree. He just needs to think it through a little. I wouldnt jump on him for this. When he gets to be shrill and hatefilled like sharandon then we'll reevaluate.

"hbo bigmouth positioning himself for later"

When it is so very rare for an actor to side with what is right, why do you post a negative response when it happens? Are you against fighting the WOT?

No, I think he has a point. It's important for society to participate in our wars - at home and the military. During WWII we had bond drives and ration cards, victory gardens, etc.. I think these are very very important, regardless of their actual value to the war effort. I think it's a mistake to not include things like this in the WOT.

I disagree. because America won WWII, we tend to look at virtually every aspect of the way it was run as a success. The rationing of WWII was another form of Rossevelt's solutions from central planning. In reality, the point of the WOT or any other war is to get the enemy to change their way of life or die--- to make them sacrifice. Where was Gandolfini when Democrats were trying to pare down the budget for Afghanistan and Iraq?

One moment Democrats like Gandolfino are complaining there's not enough sacrifice, the next moment they're complaining that money spent in the WOT could go to schools, gas costs too much, etc. This is a guy who was a part of the Streisand Bon Jovi celebs for Kerry. He's not supporting the war effort, he's (in his mind) supporting the troops by attacking the war effort-- i.e. "we shouldn't be there, but since we are there, we should 3eithe reinstitute the draft or leave Iraq!" Good for him for caring about the safety of the troops-- but I don't think he deserves any more credit than that. This is in the same vein as Shinseki's call for 500,000 troops in that Shinseki's point was that the United States shouldn't go in at all. It is most of all like Rangel's calls to reinstate the draft--- typical leftist crap.

He has been making political comments lately on his show but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet that he is a BushBot, seems his statement could be taken 2 ways.

I agree-- I'm really surprised that people are taking this as him supporting the war. If he supported the war, he wouldn't have supported Kerry against Bush.

However if you follow the link above you will see that he has supported the military since before the last election.

Right, being a Kerry supporter doesn't mean that he doesn't want what he thinks best for the troops. He plainly admires them and does not in any think they are Genghis Khan types the way Kerry did and Murtha does. However, his being a staunch Kerry supporter does make it a virtual impossibility that he supports the MISSION of the troops.
