I like the point he is making. Perhaps in a roundabout way, he is saying to the POTUS to get tough and finish this thing off.
I too like the point that he's making, however I disagree that an increase in troop strength will have any effect. I also disagree with his draft comments.
The problem with the draft is Sabotage. During the 60's we were fighting another war where this countries interests were again abandoned by the leftists in this country. The leftist true believer paltrooms were Fragging our own soldiers and tossing wrenches into the ships reduction gears. So we definitely dont need a draft.
And with regards to increasing troop numbers in iraq, that would be counterproductive. We are not fighting a war where we have a front to either defend or advance. This is guerilla warfare and an increase in troop strength just gives the terrorists a larger target aspect to strike. So with a smaller footprint in iraq the terrorists have little choice but to take aim at their own civilian population to 'send a message'. Now the civilian population is targeting terrorists along side our coalition forces.
I think Mr Gandolfini is trying to say that he'd like for bush to get tough, and with that I agree. He just needs to think it through a little. I wouldnt jump on him for this. When he gets to be shrill and hatefilled like sharandon then we'll reevaluate.
I love the keyboard commandos and their ideas of "getting tough". Undoubtedly their ideas on Monday of how Sunday's game should have been quarterbacked is JUST as relevant.
