I was watching a program on the History Channel this afternoon about the third armored division.

They showed pictures of the inmates of camps which they rescued, at least those who were sitll alive.

The thought hit me that it didn't make much difference how they died, whoever was responsible for that being done to other people was beneath being called human.

Actually, the answer to the question of whether 6 million Jews were killed in Nazi extermination camps is no. Many of the 6 million were killed without being hauled to extermination camps: shot so they fell into mass graves some of them had been forced to dig in the countryside, gassed in vans with the exhaust fumes directed into the 'passenger' space. The Einsatzgruppen murdered without the bother of camps. Others were killed in reprisals in ghettos (notably against the Warsaw ghetto uprising). This is the basis for the remark, which, quoted out of context was used to tar the French nationalist Le Pen as an anti-Semite.

Contextualized with the other Nazi methods of mass murder, Le Pen called the extermination camps a 'detail'. With the context removed, he was tarred as an anti-Semite.
