Wiretaps fail to make dent in terror war; al Qaeda used messengers

The Bush administration's surveillance policy has failed to make a dent in the war against al Qaeda.

U.S. law enforcement sources said that more than four years of surveillance by the National Security Agency has failed to capture any high-level al Qaeda operative in the United States. They said al Qaeda insurgents have long stopped using the phones and even computers to relay messages. Instead, they employ couriers.

"They have been way ahead of us in communications security," a law enforcement source said. "At most, we have caught some riff-raff. But the heavies remain free and we believe some of them are in the United States."

The fact that we have had no further attacks in the U.S. since 9/11 makes me believe someone is doing something right!

If it failed to make a dent, why complain about it? ;-)

The leaks will continue and they will continue to try and tear President Bush down untill someone has the courage to arrest and prosecute the traitors leaking information.

Messengers can be followed and captured.

""They have been way ahead of us in communications security," a law enforcement source said."

"A law enforcement source"? Considering that could be anything from a meter maid to a dog catcher, I'm not sure how useful this article is.

On second thought, yes I do know how useful this article is....its not.

Author Ronald Kesler, who has written books about GW Bush and about the CIA, stated on Fox last week that wiretaps led to the apprehension of someone plotting to blow up one of the tunnels leading to Manhattan.

Also, I'd like to have someone step forward who has been unnecessarily "victimized" by wiretaps.

There you go. Sounds like the final word on the matter. I don't know about you, but I'll believe anonymous sources from somewhere inside "U.S. law enforcement" talking to a Moonie mouthpiece before the duly elected President of the United States anytime.

The alert from NSA intercepts also lead to the identification and arrest of that cretin who was planning to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge with blow torches.

The fact that they have to use expensive messengers, who have to be flown around and eat, instead of Aldul calling Mohammed and having a two-way, real-time, conversation for cheap is a huge victory in and of itself.

Slows things down.
There's leaks.
Message gets messed up (play the rumor game much?)

Etc.

Idiots.

This is ACLU propaganda aimed at tearing down the Patriot Act.

Most MSM think is a single solution. Fix this as yet to be defined thing and peace will flood the planet. The world doesn't work that way. There are more holes in security that in a screen door. They need to be pluged one at a time if necessary. It will take time.

Yeah, thanks for that. I think it was the Brooklyn Bridge guy, not a tunnel terrorist, that Kessler was referring to. I stand corrected.

Yep. The fact that we are forcing them to use couriers sounds like a "dent" to me! LOL!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can't step outside the house without a VBIED going off.

U.S. law enforcement sources said that more than four years of surveillance by the National Security Agency has failed to capture any high-level al Qaeda operative in the United States.

Since when do high level Al Qaida guys move to the country they're going to attack? For that matter, since when do they take part in attacks? It's the mid to low level guys we're after, because they're the ones that actually engage in terrorist acts. The high level guys are hiding out in caves, not in Brooklyn.

They said al Qaeda insurgents have long stopped using the phones and even computers to relay messages. Instead, they employ couriers.

So, we can communicate at will, whereas our enemies have to coordinate complicated attacks the same way that cavemen would? On foot?

Anyone else noting a theme here? If we're not winning, would anyone like to trade with Al Qaida? They can have our modern telecommunications, email, and indoor pluming, and we'll move into a cavern in the Himalayas and start writing letters by candlelight. Then we'll be winning!!

OK so all this BS about spying hasn't worked the way the MSM thought it would as people are not, to the libs dismay, "outraged" so lets just change tactics in mid-stream, again, and just say the program doesn't work. I can't wait to see what next weeks strategy is going to be.

Reports are that when they seized Abu Zubaydah, they were able to trace 300 phone numbers from his computer and cell phone into the United States.

The MSM is trying to make it sound like Bush is just intruding on people's rights for no reason.

Bingo. They must be appalled at the polling results, and how high the support is for this program, so they're simply changing tactics. Given how fast they had to change their tune, you just know that they're not happy with how little traction they're getting.
