Maybe I missed it, but I have a question: Where's the global relief effort for us today?
New Orleans is under water. Mississippi is a disaster. Scores are dead. Homes are destroyed. Businesses are shut down.
When this kind of stuff happens to other folks, we're there. When this kind of stuff happens to us, who's here?
I know we're a rich country. But I think it a bit rich so few call to wish us well in this country. Perhaps some have and perhaps I've missed it.
Still, others never miss a chance to bash us if we've done something wrong or done nothing at all.
All I know is a lot of poor folks here got hit here. Would it kill the same foreigners we've helped there, to offer support here?
I don't expect a telethon. But how about a call on a telephone?
Maybe some countries have offered rescue personnel. I just haven't seen them. I'll keep looking. I'll keep waiting. I'll keep wondering.
All I know is for now, the silence is deafening. And the water in New Orleans isn't the only thing that stinks.

It is commentary from folks like Neil Cavuto that show what a fragment society the world is today.
I agree we are expected as a country to open our wallet for every natural disaster around the world, and we almost always do even when it affects countries we are not always friendly with, but when it comes to disasters here we do not see it in return..
Is it time to cut the rest of the world off from our generousity? I don't think that is the answer, but I do think that if we are serious about working with an international group like the UN there needs to be signs of assistance and acts beyond the token donation or token group of rescue workers when we are backed against the walls in sistuations like this.
I heard that Japan has offered help. Not sure on the details.
Venezuela, France, Germany and others which I cannot recall have said they were going to provide assistance.
I would like some foreign countries to send us some money like we send to them all the time.
I have an online classmate in Japan. He said they are showing the hurricane footage quite a bit there. He is in shock over the damage.
Folks at the UN are too busy figuring out how much their Saddam oil futures are worth now with the gulf oil production shut down.

Chavez is the only one to offer help because of 2 things.
1. Jesse Jackson was there shaking him down, and
2. trying to prove he's an upstanding guy after the Pat Robertson comments (don't assassinate me, Look, I'm generous)!
Last I heard, we have not refused, nor accepted his offer of aid.

There are reports out of Mexico that President of Mexico Vicente Fox will be sending help to the victims of hurricane Katrina.
He said a additional 500,000 illegals will be crossing the border this week.
