Janeane Garofalo makes a Nazi salute on MSNBC to mock Republicans who dipped their fingers in paint

Actress and liberal talk-radio host Janeane Garofalo is taking issue with congressional Republicans who dipped their fingers in ink for President Bush's State of the Union speech as a sign of solidarity with Iraqi voters, likening it to a Nazi salute.

Garofalo actually made the salute last night as she provided post-speech commentary on MSNBC's "After Hours" program.

"The inked fingers was disgusting," said Garofalo, who is one of the hosts on the Air America radio network.

"The inked fingers and the position of them, which is gonna be a Daily Show photo already, of them signaling in this manner [Nazi salute], as if they have solidarity with the Iraqis who braved physical threats against their lives to vote as if somehow these inked-fingered Republicans have something to do with that."

Iraqi citizens who voted in last weekend's elections dipped their fingers in colored paint to indicate they had voted.

During numerous standing ovations, television cameras showed many members of Congress displaying a finger which had been dipped in blue paint, as a sign of solidarity with the Iraqis who braved violence over the weekend to cast their ballots for the first time in a post Saddam Hussein-era.

"This blue finger is a sign of incredible courage on the part of the Iraqi people," House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said after the speech, noting the paint stays on for a week in Iraq.

That's kinda what I was thinking. It's like watching someone run into a wall repeatedly.

I thought at first that maybe the Dems learned something from this election. But it seems all they learned is to not crucify pro-life dems (the only right move they have made) and to drop God's name occasionally (totally worthless).

Amazing. It's just like Zell said, they keep changing the makeup on, instead of the makeup of, the Democrat party.

Well .. discrediting the inked finger is important - there was much talk on the internet about doing that here in America - to keep people from voting more than once. We should have seen this reaction coming from the dems.

How did they pick it up after it already exploded? Enquiring minds want to know.

Although it sounds as if that's basically what happened to War Hero Whatshisname (stumpy) from Georgia or Alabama or wherever.

I can think of a one-finger salute for the holly-wood cabal. How about a yellow painted middle finger for the Hollywood folks?

Heil Hollywood!!

Garofalo's career has been in the toilet for so many years that I suspect this is the only way she can get attention anymore.

Hmmmm.... I would say that it was intended to send the message that not all of America is against you and we are damned proud of what you did. And I think everyone made that very clear. I Doubt whether your opinion is widely held on the ground in Iraq, it is far too "nuanced."

Well, Q_A. it's like this: If the libs/socialists were attacking a hero who won the purple heart, we would be correct to wear fake purple hearts to indicate our solidarity with him. It would be taking nothing away from his bravery, but would be expressing belief in him and his valor.
