Is Iraq Worth it?

Is Iraq worth it?

We find ourselves fighting Islamists there on an attritional front that Bush opened up.

The United States have fought with Islamists before, in Afghanistan in the 1980’s, and in Bosnia/Kosovo in the 1990’s.

Of course, 9/11 changed all of that.

I myself do not believe that Clinton’s unilateral action in Kosovo was worth it.
Milosevic, Serbia's leader, lowered himself to the Islamists he was fighting: They were doing to Serbia what we see in Iraq today {kidnappings, neck sawyering, bombings} but Serbia responded by reverting to tactics used by their own Nazi occupiers in the 1940's by systematically wiping out Muslim communities. For Milosevic's ham-fisted overreaction to Islamist terror in his own country, Clinton's administration took it upon it's self to win points with international Islamists by bombing Serbia back to the Stone Age. The major problem with that policy is that militant Islamists do not think as western Christians do and the USA got NO points from them for standing up for Islamists in Kosovo.

Later, on another Islamist front - Chechnya, Putin used more "forward thinking" {notice the sarcasm here} than Milosevic by employing thousands of Fuel-Air explosives and literally leveling Grozy and the Islamists therein.

Now why did Clinton not bomb Moscow back to the Stone Age as he did to Belgrade? A major {among many} reason is Atomic Weapons. Russia has them, as Iran, & North Korea does, so we cannot use the same tactics that worked on Saddam.

I see Iraq as worth it, and just another front vs the Islamists along with Kosovo, Chechnya, Morocco {damn French lost that one}, Afghanistan {80's & post 9/11}, Philippines ect.

In a vacuum, if GW2 was just about WMDs & Saddam, then no, it was not worth it.

However, Iraq is another {major} Islamist front, on the ground of Bush’s choosing, and yes it's worth it.

Is Iraq worth it? Yes. It gives us a base to attack the larger enemy, which is Iran.

Iraq is a convenient launching point for the coming invasion of Iran.

If things work out the way I think they might. We may not NEED to invade at all. I think the young generation there will be emboldened by a free Iraq and overthrow the regime.

In the section "Link to Terrorists", the Senate Intel report covers Iraq links to terrorists in general and especially Al Qaeda -- 66 pages worth -- showing that Iraq trained them in chemical, biological, NUCLEAR, and bomb making from "1990 to present".

In addition, the report also covers Iraq having 100s of terrorist training camps for home grown Iraqi terrorist from "1996 to present" specifically dedicated to training to hit US and US interests.

As far as I'm concerned, no additional activity by Saddam -- than what this report validates -- is required in to make a valid case that Saddam was a clear and undeniable threat to the US!

I suspect that most of of the folks under age 40 in Iran (which means a majority
of the country) wouldn't call it an invasion.

Liberation is more like it.

.

Concur!

Removing Saddam as a legitimate threat to our flank was a yet another reason for us being there.

Many of those over 40 initially supported the overthrow of the Shah. I think we may have a case of buyer's remorse now. I wonder if the younger Iranian generation is asking the older generation: "How is $#@#*##!% could you have been so STUPID?"

You are 100%, absolutely correct. I remember when Chris Wallace (I think it was him) went to Iran, and a woman, risking her LIFE by speaking to him, let alone say anything political, pleaded with Chris to please have George Bush come free them like he did Afghanistan. It was the most poignant thing I've ever seen. Top that off with a majority of the populace is under the age of 40, hate their 'foreign' Muslim rulers- and love everything Western- and you've got all the conditions ripe for a revolution.

And it might just happen without a single US Soldier on the ground. With US soldiers to the left and right of Iran, that alone may give those that want freedom enough of a catalyst to do something about it.

Is Iraq Worth it?

Worth it for whom?

The president?

The taxpayers?

The defense industry?

The innocent American civilians?

How do you split a log? You drive a wedge into it. Iraq serves as a wedge between Syria and Iran. Afganistan serves as a wedge between Pakistan and Iran. If Israel can isolate the Palestinians, the Middle East will be pacified. The free floating kind of terror that we've witnessed these many years will simply not be possible.

From my "The Fronts in This War" Post http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1176898/posts

Amazingly even after the attack on Pearl Harbor people failed to realize that we had been brought into a WORLD WAR. Unfortunately there are still those out there that fail to understand that this has happened again (including the amazing Mr. Kerry who feels the term war is too harsh.)

Was it part of the war on Japan to invade Africa? How can people with a straight face try to separate Iraq from the overall war?

The War on Terror involves many fronts, the most prominent of which are: - The Economic Homefront - the 9/11 attacks cost the US nearly 1 trillion. The agressive action by the administration turned the recession around (see Alan Greenspan comments 7/21/2004 for confirmation). - Afganistan - the agressive action by the administration has liberated millions and disrupted terrorist command and control (see the 9/11 report.) - Iraq - the agressive action by the administration has liberated millions and made the US safer (see the 9/11 commission report) as well as caused a vaccuum drawing many terrorists in to fight on our terms rather then on our soil. - Reformation of our traditional alliances, trusting those who share our interests rather then those who would rather sell out for their oil vouchers. - Continious strengthing of our homeland security.

Then there is the clandestine front that we will probably never hear about. People wonder why Tenant was allowed to stay as long as he did - my reply, there are probably many victories that we will never know about.

It was , and still is, worth it 'cause it keeps the Islamic kreeps occupied defending themselves from us over there

That is a big improvement over their being able to attack us over here simply because we won't willing allow the conversion of American law to Sharia "law" over here.

Aside from the general media commentary about the younguns in Iran wanting to see the
mullahs thrown on the ash-heap of history...
I remember when we had TONS of Iranians at the universities in Oklahoma.
I've suspected that some of the current unrest comes from the young ones hearing from their
parents and uncles/aunts about the "good old days in the USA".
