I say it is hyperbolic because there is nothing in the text of the legislation to support the claim that Bible readings will be criminalized, or that Christians are being targeted.

I think hate crimes laws are a bad idea, but the original post was way, way over the top, and makes those who oppose this sort of legislation for sound reasons look like extremists.

If you think phone calls and E-Mails are going to force REAL change, or voting for "Mr. Smith" so he can go to Washington, well..........The only way to bring about REAL change, short of armed rebellion, which should never be out of the question, is to stop the money flow. You know the old adage, "Follow the money" when looking for who's responsible for bad things happening? Dry up the money, and bad things stop happening.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread yet, but the amendments added to the bill by the Senate will not be up for vote in the House at this point.

It will first have to pass the House where this whole thing could get hammered out in Conference before getting back to the House and Senate for a final vote.

We urge you to oppose such legislation. As your constituent, I categorically do not support the "hate crimes" amendment to H.R. 4200.

The history of such legislation elsewhere demonstrates an astonishing, deleterious effect on free speech: (1) A Canadian was charged with "hate speech" for quoting Bible verses: (2) An Australian pastor was arrested for "hate speech" for expressing his sincerely held beliefs.

We do not want or need such legislation in the US. Thank you for your actions to protect our constitutional rights, and to safeguard our families.
