(03-20-2004) Atlanta Post-Freep Report
03/20/2004 | Marc Oburg

"Hilaryrhymeswithrich", her two daughters, "U S Army EOD", and I ("Tatze") met up early Saturday morning around the corner from the scene of the mass stupidity, .. uh protest. We walked up around noon to a protest crowd of about 100. It was a pack of the usual suspects: A.N.S.W.E.R., World Workers Party (Socialists), Pro-Palestinians, young tattooed and pierced globalists, and aged hippies stuck in the 60's.

Wanting to irk them the most, we took up on the edge of their crowd, rather than across the street. We were quickly joined by fellow Freeper "Pop-aye" and his son.

It took a little while for the genious protestors to actually figure out we were not with them. A brave few ventured over to engage us in debate. It was mostly liberal talking points, and most quickly resorted to yelling and name-calling.

Shortly thereafter, an Iraqi American man, named Kaise Urfali, came up to us and asked if we were there supporting Bush. We said that we were, and he thanked us and waived his "Fight Terror" sign in the face of the protestors. Another "Iraqi" came up to debate Mr Urfali, and shortly sunk back into the crowd, at which point Mr Urfali outed the other "Iraqi" as a known Palestinian. I guess they must always lie.

In time, we were joined by more fellow travellers, including Ryan from ProtestWarrior.com and three other guys there independantly. All had great signs, such as:

"End the Arab Occupation of Jewish Land"
"Vietnam Veteran For Bush"
"I will vote for John Kerry before I vote against him"
"K E R R Y H O U S E" (like a Waffle House sign)
"Friends dont let friends vote Democrat"
"Say No To War (Unless a Democrat is President)"
But my favorite and easily the recipient of the most glares from the pro-palestinian crowd was:
"We don't strap bombs on our 10 year olds!"

They had various speakers talking about the evil occupations of Israel, Iraq, etc, Bush lied, blah blah. One even complained that Israelis knock down doors and give residents five minutes to get out before bulldozing their house. Five minutes seems more than fair to me, considering the Palestinian bombers dont give any such warning before they blow up a bus or market.

Unfortunately, none of my pictures came out, so I will have to wait until I receive emails from the others who were there. Here are two from "Hilaryrhymeswithrich".

The Freeping ending when they started their march to Piedmont Park. We thought about driving over there and freeping them again, but decided that we had our fun and called it a day.

There is supposedly another anti-war protest tonight in Marietta Square. Sounds like my job is not yet complete. But I'll leave that for another thread!

I'll add my thoughts to the Freeping! First, for once, the AP, Fox and Reuters reporters spent as much time with the 10-12 of us as they did the 150 or so anti-war types. Lots of pictures of our signs and quite a few print interviews. More than one of the photogs said quietly, "I'm so glad you guys showed up, I was really tired of having to take pictures of these people."

One wrinkley old hippy insisted on trying to engage my girls in debate. I had warned them adhead of time and number 2 daughter (holding a Bush rocks sign for most of it) replied to his Bush lied chant, "Go Bush! I love my President!" Ouch. Then he asked why I didn't want to debate him, didn't I want to hear the other side??? I said, "Look buddy, I was raised by two hippy liberals. Every Thanksgiving dinner I hear your side and I DISAGREE." He moved along after that.

We really irritated them today. We had a bullhorn to chant our opinions, lots of signs etc. They tried to block our signs, but as we were on the curb, all passing cars saw us, not them. We went home giggling and smiling, they went home eternally pissed off that we were there. Is there more joy than that???

I encourage everyone to get out and protest the next anti-(war, Bush, etc) protest in your area. I feel pumped up, and I guarantee they are more ticked at our presence there, they they are happy about thier "success".

I totally agree. We need to show those who agree with us that there are others out there and just because you scream and chant the loudest, doesn't mean you are right. If we allow them to continue to dominate this form of protesting, unanswered, we are as much to blame as they are.

This world will not survive if the silent majority continues to stay silent.

Good on ya, Tatze, Hillaryrhymeswithitch!
You should be proud of yourself for getting out there and showing that the anti-Bush, anti-freedom crowd isn't the only voice.

I will vote for John Kerry before I vote against him

Very original.

The account of your counterprotest was very inspiring, too.

Thanks for all you did and for posting your report.

What a good mom Hillaryrhymewithrich is! You are teaching your kids great lessons! I wish I could have taken my kids with me during San Francisco counterprotests, but here it is flat-out dangerous to do so. All this from the "City of Love and Peace"; the City That Knows How", etc. If it weren't for the thin blue line, most of us would have been black and blue. Not a place for a kid.

I'll add that our signs said:

10 out of 10 Despots, Dictators and Terrorists agree, Kerry in '04

We don't strap bombs on our ten year olds (thanks to a fellow Freeper for that ideas)

And my younger daughter, who made her own sign...George W Bush Rocks...We love and support our troops!

Does the heart good to see those girls out there with y'all doing their patriotic part in standing for right and freedom. (((Hugs))) to them.

Loved the response of #2 daughter to wrinkly old hippy...you go girl! I love our president too! God bless him.

LOL at your remark to wrinkly old hippy's attempt at debate:
"Look buddy, I was raised by two hippy liberals. Every Thanksgiving dinner I hear your side and I DISAGREE."
LOLOL!

I can imagine! I knew Tatze would be there and I told the girls to hide behind him if need be. We also stayed on the outside of the crowd to make sure we we close to the police, one of whom said, "They just want our troops home so they can spit on them." Funny!

My interview with Fox news mostly centered around why I brought the girls. My answer, I want them to see that their are a variety of opinions out there. I want them to see that what they see on the news, just the anti-Bush crowd, is not all that is out there (Thank God for fellow Freepers!!)

I hope that they way we are raising them would make conservative values seem to be the obvious choice, but they must also learn to question, and then defend, their beliefs.

Besides, it is really just fun to heckle hippies!!!

Her daughters were great. They were standing at the street holding up their signs before we even left our parking spaces (a few blocks away).

Just made it back in to Lincolnton. One major item of notice during the demostration, WE WERE THE ONLY ONES CARRYING AMERICAN FLAGS. I will admit as usual I did not behave myself. They seem to get upset when I intially asked them if I was at the Gay Liberation March and they seemed to look a little sheepish when I would ask who had and when were the free drugs going to be passed out.

I also made a few comments to the old hippies who were there to the point of if they had taken a bath since the demonstrations in the 60's and 70's. I really don't understand it but they really said some nasty things to me and I had a feeling they didn't like me very much.
