Human tools found in Antarctica
Early morning Today show | 1/20/2004 | NBC

Posted on 01/20/2004 5:03:51 AM PST by djf

There was just a very short blurb about finding evidence of settlements in Antarctica, along with pictures of tools, that indicate man was there 2-300 years before it was officially discovered in the 1800's.

I am searching for links but haven't found any yet.

"Human tools found in Antarctica"

Hmmm...they must've overshot New Hampshire.

I wonder if Antarcticans, when they tried a new food they never had before, said "Tastes like penguin!"

In the book "Fingerprints of the Gods" there is shown evidence that sailors knew the existence of Antartica on some of the more ancient maps of the world. However many of the author's research is shaky, but he does mention many curious things.

The maps are pretty well documented, I think.

That was Hapgood's conclusion in his book "Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings" that the Piri R'eis map shows an outline of part of the coast of Antarctica. I think he made it about 1620.

Was my 12 volt DeWalt Cordless drill one of the tools they found? I really would like it back.

Hey, remember when we found evidence of life on Mars in a rock from Antarctica? Maybe Martians secretly evolved there and made some hand tools.

An airtight theory, except for one thing: Where'd all the Martians go?

Didn't Bradbury say that we are the Martians?

Anyways, here is a site I found for Antarctic news, that doesn't say anything about it.

I searched MSNBC but they had nothing about it. But I did get to look at a nice pic of Debra Norville...

I believe the Piri R'eis map was a copy of an even older map.

From your link: "Marion Garry, 50, who called the team to her garden after watching a TV show about hidden archaeological treasures in built-up areas, says she plans to turn the sunken patio into a permanent garden feature."

That's one hell of an idea!! Claim to have some evidence of archeological interest on your property so a team comes out to dig it up - but you really were just too cheap to rent an excavator or bulldozer. This way the work gets done for free, and you don't have to do it yourself.

I find it extraordinarily interesting that all the sudden we are finding evidence of man surviving and prospering in areas of the world (Northern Siberia near the Bering Strait, and now Antarctica), where it would be difficult to survive now, even in post ice-age climates.

Some have proposed that the polar regions were not always where they are today. Makes sense, why would they be? Just one near pass from a large celestrial body might effect this. Could it never have happened?

Hopefully they were Sears ™Craftsman tools...as (if broken) these can be taken back to Sears and exchanged for brand new ones...

Well, the pic which was on for maybe 5 seconds showed stone tools. But they mentioned Antarctica twice, and mentioned the official discovery date of it in the mid 1800's, but I just searched AP and Reuters and got no hits. Who knows? They found a seam of coal within 200 miles of the south pole, so anythings possible.
