But many non believers in Jesus nevertheless worship God as best they understand him, although their understanding of him is partial or distorted. That is why we find good people in all religions.

No, we find good people because you cannot erase the conscience. God's law is written in all our hearts. It does not mean that Christianity and Islam worship the same God. Why on earth does Jesus give the great commission? The 'people not of this fold' meant people outside the nation of Israel. I like the idea that CS Lewis puts forth in Mere Christianity - and illustrates in "The Last Battle" that there are those that are more deeply his than even they know -- but I have a hard time making doctrine of it, since that idea is only hinted at, and in contrast it is made abundantly clear that we are supposed to go forth teaching and baptizing in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit.

Ergun Caner says that immediately following the terrorist attacks, the media's assumptions about the differences between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity compelled him to speak out with righteous indignation. He explains, "The central theme of the media was, 'I don't understand why the Muslims, Jews, and Christians are fighting so much, because they're all basically worshiping the same God.' " He says that in the minds of most of the talking heads on the news shows, "Jehovah and Allah are the same God, like these are divine nicknames."

Caner's response to this fallacious assumption is emphatic. "As a Muslim, if I had heard someone say that Jehovah and Allah are the same God, I would have been offended," he declares. "As a Christian, I find it blasphemous." He notes, "I have never met one intelligent Muslim who ever said that Allah of the Koran and Jehovah of the Bible are the same God."

Your Muslim friend is mistaken. Land of Moriah where Abraham made sacrifice is in the Holy Land. He died also in the Holy Land (in Hebron area). Do your homework.

Yes, well, Islam teaches that Moses was found and raised by Pharaoh's wife, not his daughter, and many other details that they changed (e.g. that the birthright was supposed to go to Ishmael, not Isaac).

You don't get it. Modern Muslims (at leat the ones I know) believe that the Koran was written for a specific moment in history, and that phrases saying to kill infidels has no application to modern times. so.

Do they cite passages in the Koran that anticipate a time of modernism, when the initial precepts of Islam could be discarded?

There are certainly passages in the Koran where Muslims are given leave to lie to you and me about their intentions.

I don't see many Jews or Christians sacrificing animals because the Bible says

Christians aren't instructed to sacrifice animals, the sacrifice of Christ is sufficient.

Jews, as I recall, conduct their sacrifices in a Temple, and there isn't one at the moment.

These militant muslims HAVE hijacked a religion based on THEIR interpretation of the Koran.

They're actually interpreting the Koran as written. Jihad is integral to Islam.

Mohammed evangelized through jihad.

There are also different 'beliefs' in Christianity- Baptists, Methodist, Catholics, etc. They all differ in their beliefs. But it is their belief in Jesus Christ that binds them- and keeps them peaceful.

How would belief in the God of Mohammed, which binds Muslims, ever keep them peaceful?

Perhaps someday there will be a faction of Christians who take up arms in the name of their God against what they deem as false religions.

Perhaps, but they won't be able to cite the words of Jesus to do so.

The reason why a Reformation of Christianity was possible was because it had undergone a deformation to achieve its excesses.

The excesses of Islam are true to Mohammed. "Islam means peace" is a deformation.

A Muslim who truly believes in pluralism, and doesn't desire Islamic government and the institution of sharia law, is actually a heretic to Islam. There is no secular tradition in Islam; no equivalent to Jesus' dictum: "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and render unto God that which is God's.

One of the problems with Islam is that the more devout tend to become more violent or anti-social, which is in contrast with most other religions where the truly devout become more peaceful or concentrate on good-works or inner peace....
I for one am damn near ready to let the "wiping out" begin.... I say we show them what the killing of women and children is all about ....

It appears the second statement speaks volumes about the first as far you personally are concerned.

With note of thanks from StopLegalPlunder

The Bible teaches that God created man out of "the dust of the ground" and "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." (Gen 2:7).

The Koran teaches that Allah "created Man of a blood-clot." (Sura XCVI, p. 344 in The Koran, Interpreted, A.J. Arberry, trans., New York: Collier Books).

They are not the same. allah is a 3000 year old DEAD moon god

The evidence reveals that the temple of the Moon-god was active even in the Christian era. Evidence gathered from both North and South Arabia demonstrate that Moon-god worship was clearly active even in Muhammad's day and was still the dominant cult. According to numerous inscriptions, while the name of the Moon-god was Sin, his title was al-ilah, i.e. "the deity," meaning that he was the chief or high god among the gods. As Coon pointed out, "The god Il or Ilah was originally a phase of the Moon God." The Moon-god was called al-ilah, i.e. the god, which was shortened to Allah in pre-Islamic times. The pagan Arabs even used Allah in the names they gave to their children. For example, both Muhammad's father and uncle had Allah as part of their names.

He could have said "NO but I think it is possible to live together in peace, if all parties are willing."

Yes he sure could have. He should never have lied if it was a lie just to please Muslims, otherwise he shouldn't have lied to Christians when he said he is a born again Christian.

Because you are only seeing it from the Christian mindset and not from the Muslim mindset who absolutely believe that we all worship the same God.

No they don't, not at all!

I know this a dead end debate since you have truth on your side... but what of the Muslim in America and the Middle East. If the President answers as some demand that he do on this thread, then The President of the United States just said that for the last 1,371 years your religion is wrong. Why in the world should the President of the United States ever say that is his official capacity?

Even on this thread, there is a wide opinion of difference. The thread barely maintains its civility. If you've ever wandered over to the religious forum...you would see that religion and who has truth and who does not is a loaded question that can't produce a winner but produces alot of animosity and hate... (and the participants are supposedly on the same side!!)

You want the President of the United States to declare your religion the correct one... regardless of what the other faiths believe. You want the President of the United States to declare just whose God is God. That's not the President of the United States job.

And I'm amazed that you cannot see that.

How well Muhammad did know the Bible?

About as well as the Gnostics or the Manicheans.
Islam is the heresy that didn't die.

Really? Can you provide a quote from Muslim authority? Because, as I understand it, Islam says Allah has NO son. If their god has no son, and the Christian God has a Son (whom the Christian believes is one person of the triune God), surely the Muslim would say the Christian worships a false -- and thus different -- god.

Um, Muhammed was a Prophet, not a God. Allah is their God.

Tell me where this comment disagrees with my statement at #348, to which you were apparently responding:

Muslims worship the god of Muhammad, as revealed by Muhammad.

That god is not God. The distortion is to claim that it is.
