McCain says he regrets picking Palin as running mate

Sen. John McCain

(R-Ariz.) said he regrets choosing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that McCain, while still defending Palin’s performance, said in his upcoming book “The Restless Wave” that he wishes he had instead selected former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)

His advisers reportedly had warned against choosing Lieberman, who was once a Democrat, stating that Lieberman’s support of abortion rights could divide Republicans.

“It was sound advice that I could reason for myself,” he writes. “But my gut told me to ignore it and I wish I had.”

In a new HBO documentary, McCain goes on to say that not choosing Lieberman was “another mistake" that he made in his political career.

Lieberman told The Times that he didn’t know McCain felt that way.

“It touched me greatly,” he said of the film.

The Times reported that Lieberman recently visited McCain, 81, at his ranch in Arizona where the senator is recovering from his brain cancer treatment and surgery for an infection.

Recently released excerpts from McCain’s upcoming memoir indicate that he doesn’t know how much time he has left to live while battling the glioblastoma he was diagnosed with last year.

Although the memoir isn’t entirely political, McCain still takes swings at Trump.

McCain writes that the president seems to care more about “the appearance of toughness” than American values, chiding Trump's coziness with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in particular.

“The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and other Appreciations.” will be released May 22.

Of course he regrets it -- it wrecked his chance to be the glory hole greeter for Obama's White House..

There are many types of reprobate mind and I’m sensing it in John McCain. He’s incapable of repentance because he’s incapable of even realizing let along acknowledging or regretting that he’s sinned.

Brain tumors make people more cranky than they usually are. Heck, any kind of serious disease does. But brain tumors especially are accompanied by personality changes. I can’t say I’ve ever really been a fan of McCain, but I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

"McCain says he regrets picking Palin as running mate"

Considering the alternative, I still would have voted for Palin.

But this isn’t a personality change, he’s always been cranky and contrarian.

Name the worst vote you ever cast: John McCain, U.S. Senate 2016.

John McCain will pass away as a man infected interally with self-inflicted, evil, hate, envy and little regard for those like Sarah Palin who gave her all and great loyalty to elect him.

And....for months as he slowly approaches meeting his maker, McCain selfishly has denied & deprived all the voters and citizens of the state of Arizona of voting representation in Washington, DC. “SAD”!!!

McCain has a meeting scheduled with SATAN, the Devil himself....who will openly welcome McCain into the forever “Hell” he carved out for himself.

The funeral for John McCain will not be of serious note or importance. He has failed his country, his family and most of all, himself!!! “Sad”!!!

Disclosure: I’m reading the thread from the back to the front. Your post is exquisite.

I held my nose and voted for >>> his name that shall not be mentioned <<< in order to get Sarah Palin.

Instead of (hntsnbm) Sarah Palin/The Tea Party, inherited the party mantle, putting (hntsnbm) in isolation. (Hntsnbm) woke up to find himself adrift and without a political mandate, because he was definitively persona non grata in his own party. He owned this position due to his own inequities, flaws... and overall bitterness... and incompetence.

Fast forward- we now have a man incapable of recognizing his own flaws, especially his self loathing, eating away at his core, turning his ire on his fellow countrymen, instead of owning his self hatred, rather than projecting it upon all of us.

That’s fine if the governor throws out the list of “acceptable replacements” McCain has supposedly handed him.

I have to bet she hated it too. He was so awful to her. But she came to our attention and things have never been the same. Go Sarah. You hit the bulls-eye. They hate the Prophets.

Without Palin his margin of loss would have been substantially greater.

I didn’t think it possible to hate McCain anymore than I do but now I see it is totally possible and I have found it to be true.

Moron. Sarah was the only reason we voted FOR McCain/Palin.

I remember a modified McCain-Palin sign here that looked something like this:

McCain
PALIN

Lieberman told The Times that he didn’t know McCain felt that way.

“It touched me greatly,” he said of the film.

“Can you show us on the doll where he touched you, Joe?”

I’m with you.

And I remember all that with Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace, and them sabotaging Sarah mercilessly as they took her down with some help from Wallace’s BFF, perky katie - and McCain being the traitor and jerk we know so well just standing by doing nothing.

He should be ashamed to be such a blatant jerk to Sarah, then and now.

Instead, he’s going out of his way - possibly on his death bed - to be a jerk to her one more time - probably because he knows we voted for her, and also she endorsed Trump, because he’s also petty that way.

That’s classy Senator McCain, real classy.

You continue to demonstrate why you lost to Obama. You confirm your incompetence AND stab your running mate in the back as you prepare your exit from this world. Good thing Sarah Palin is more of a man than you have ever been.

I’ll look to her for class....
