Free Republic Straw Poll (February 2016 edition)
Free Republic | February 1, 2016 | 2ndDivisionVet

Posted on 01/31/2016 10:22:08 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

If you had to vote in your state primary/caucus today, knowing what you know now about the various declared and probable candidates, who would you vote for? Why? Who would you like to see as the running mate for your preferred candidate? If you could help staff your candidates cabinet and other top appointments, who would you choose? If you could recommend different congressional leaders than we have now, who would they be? And who would you like to see on the Supreme Court and why? And finally, feel free to donate to Free Republic.

President of the United States-Trump
Trump is what this nation needs in the present time. He is neither a politician nor a lawyer in his methods and thinking. Politicians and lawyers are what brought us to this predicament.

Vice President-Sessions
Jeff Sessions has been a stalwart and well spoken advocate for the things that have needed to be addressed.

Interim Head of Senate-Cruz

Secretary of State-Huckabee
Huckabee is a born diplomat

Department of Justice-Trey Gowdy

Department of the Interior-Sarah Palin

I’m sure, however, that Trump knows and already has in mind a full spectrum of talented experts in any field that he needs to fill his cabinet. Many of them will probably be people who have done good work for him in his business and helped him make his billions. That would make their qualifications impeccable for the work that needs to be done.

The only area that I see in which Trump might have to call in advisors is to fill positions in the Defense Department and Homeland Security. That should, however, be no problem at all. I’m sure that a lot of military brass and Homeland Security personnel are just itching to get out from under the idiotic restraints that Obama has imposed on them and work for a leader who has America’s interests at heart for a change.

Would love to see Ben Carson as Surgeon gen.

Surgeon General does nothing of value. HHS would be a better fit.

Principle, passion minded Ted Cruz. No Deals. NEVER vote for someone because of words and promises, LOOK AT THE RECORD. Trump is a whoremonger.

Some billionaires are funding Cruz's run...They're going to want something in return...Something big!!!

Cruz can then go to the Supreme Court.

Cruz has about as much chance to go to the Supreme Court as I do. All that comity you see when a democrat senator comes before the senate, for consideration, will disappear faster than a snow in July, if Cruz comes before them.

Trump. Running mate: Jim Webb, assuming Webb was willing to renounce the Democrats and register Republican.

I'd vote Trump. He can beat Hillary. Plus immigration and trade are the number one and two issues endangering America's future and he's the best candidate on both. Trump/Palin would make every liberal's head explode. A few weeks ago I would have favored Trump/Cruz but Cruz is so clueless I now believe he'd drag down the ticket. Put Cruz on the Supreme Court if he can be confirmed.

In the Senate I like Jeff Sessions. Rand Paul is great on the Second and Fourth Amendments but awful on immigration, so no place for him in a Trump administration.

Ann Coulter for Press Secretary!

Condoleezza Rice for VP.

Trump was against the invasion of Iraq. He won't pick anyone with that baggage.

Santorum for VP

Interesting choice. Santorum is the only man running who's tougher than Trump on immigration. Santorum's career is over and for any normal candidate I'd disqualify him for VP because he's so unpopular in his home state. Instead I'd look for someone who brought more votes to the ticket. But Trump is so strong he's not likely to need any help. It would also reassure Christian voters.

He's also one of the only well known Republicans who, like Trump, opposes "free trade."

The other thing about Santorum is he answers the questions about Trump. He's a bit nerdy not rich guy with a proven record for voting conservative. He's excellent at articulating the message. He's not greedy for money or overly ambitious. He knows his way around DC. When he and Huck spoke at the Veterans event, they both did a very fine job of bring quiet order to the room.

Santorum was on the way to the nomination last time. It's a shame he started talking too much about "the need to compromise" instead of something like "the need to articulate our principles and strive to implement them".

Summary...Santorum would validate Trump and he knows his way around the world of politics.

That and more is how I see him too.

Many people don’t. We’ll see how it goes.

Trump gets women that you only dream of, I think they call that “jealousy”.

As for the straw poll, I’d vote Trump and would like to see Allen West as VP.

She ran for Senate, a statewide office. There are lots of CA Congressional districts that are Republican.

Cruz. Through business I know too much about Trump’s style and character. The ‘art of the deal’ is not what I want for the next four years.

Sessions or Pataki would make a great VP.

Santorum is a long shot for VP but he increased his chances by showing up at the Trump veteran’s charity event. That’s the kind of thing Trump likes and rewards.
