Cruz Is No Nice Guy and He May Finish First

This is the Ted Cruz moment.

There was nothing inevitable about it, nor is there anything conventional about him. Born in Canada, elected to the Senate from Alberta's muscular cousin, Texas, Mr. Cruz has until this month been overshadowed by his slightly younger fellow Cuban-American, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida. No more. Cruz has soared to the lead in almost every poll in Iowa, eclipsing even Donald Trump, and ranks second to the billionaire businessman in almost every national poll.

If there is an alternative to Trump right now -- and remember, as a cautionary note, how Republican polls and primary results swung like bungees only four years ago -- it is Cruz. That itself is not only astonishing but also significant....

Cruz’s rise is a result of Carson’s demise. Those voters are going to Cruz and Trump, but mostly to Cruz.

The MSM also has been pushing wars between the candidates: Cruz vs. Rubio. Trump vs. Cruz. Divide and conquer.

Luckily the Bernie Sanders gloves might actually be off tomorrow night for the debate. He’s a sharp old Jew and if goes after her it’ll be fun to watch.

I don’t know, Sanders has given her passes before when he had the opportunity to effectively attack her and her record. But, if you’re actually going to watch it, your bag of popcorn should last a long time considering the minuscule number of viewers expected.

Mr. Cruz is no mellifluous speaker. His voice has the capacity to curdle milk in a refrigerator two blocks away and to scratch blackboards in a middle school at the far edge of town. He's reviled by his colleagues, who consider him selfish, self-absorbed, self-indulgent and, when he began his presidential campaign, self-deluded.

No hatred here.

For those of yinz outside the Pittsburgh area, it is worth noting that the ComPost-Gazette is the left-wing older paper in our region. It has been bleeding readers and subscribers since the 1980s thanks to the far more balanced Tribune-Review which started in Westmoreland County to the southeast of Pittsburgh and is now displacing the Compost-Gazette in almost every market in our region save for the down and out drug infested areas like the Mon Valley or the hopeless left-wing neighborhoods such as Squirrel Hill and Oakland.

The Tribune Review is financially healthy just the same, although they own television, radio stations and have marginal papers which they have closed down. There is still a lot of money in newspaper advertising if only because it is one of the less expensive ways to deliver still.

I love how the writer repeatedly says Cruz is ‘not nice’ but gives no examples of his not-niceness. Does he call his Secret Service ‘Trained Pigs’ like Hillary? There are myriad examples of HER not-niceness, but we never hear about them, do we?
