Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) says he is in favor of preventing people on the âno-fly listâ from being able to purchase guns.
âWell, on the no-fly list, we probably could keep them from getting guns and ought to ban them,â Kasich said on CNNâs âState of the Unionâ on Sunday.
The Republican presidential hopeful said it is âcommon senseâ to prevent people on terror watchlists from obtaining weapons, but that a balance must be struck in order to ensure suspects under review are not tipped off.
âWe want to make sure that we can exploit all the information that we possibly can get. So if all of a sudden you tell everybody whoâs on the watch list that you canât do this or that, then guess what happens?â he said. âThen we lose our ability to track, we lose our ability to gather information, so I think we have to be careful.â
"Of course it makes common sense to say that if youâre on a terror watchlist that you shouldnât be able to go out and get a gun, although you will be able to get it illegally, but what we have to deal with is the fact that we donât want to tip somebody off that theyâre under review and that we could be gathering critical information to disrupt the plot,â he added.
Republicans in the Senate prevented Democrats from approving a measure last week that would have barred people on federal terror watchlists from buying firearms.
Conservatives fear such a measure would deny people of their Second Amendment rights without due process.
Because the “no-fly list” is flawless, right, you son of a mailman?
Not.
Mr. Kasich, the 2nd Amendment > no-fly list.
Americans have the right to bear arms regardless of whether or not the government wants them on planes or not.
If you don’t want certain people to have the right to bear arms, then I suggest you keep certain people out of this country, otherwise those people will enjoy that civil right as we all do.
Hey Kasich, why don’t you tell us how one gets on the “no fly list” and then give us your answer.
Kasich showing his Uniparty colors
This is a 10th Amendlent issue: there is no delegated power given a Congress for federal gun laws to say what Citizens living in the several States cannot own, buy or sell.
Our principal problem isn’t gun violence: it is the lawlessness of our federal government.
Is the no-fly list and the terror watch list the same thing?
Kasich seems to be using them interchangably. If you are on the no-fly list, you would certainly know if you attempted to fly.
By the way, John, it is a bad idea. What are the criteria for being on the list? Who can change the criteria?
It smells like a back door gun confiscation scheme.
Like the islamic terrorists are not going to be able to get guns anyway. They are not really concerned with legalities.
Hey Kasich, why donât you tell us how one gets on the âno fly listâ and then give us your answer.

Not only will they not tell you how you got on the list, they won’t tell you how to get off the list.
Backdoor gun ban.
Kasich should be on a no-fly list.
Quit flying into my world.
The steady downward spiral of the Kasich campaign puzzles analysts. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
I guess that pretty much rules out me stating my thoughts about Kaisch.
Kasich is no friend to conservatives, not by a long shot. He’s Uniparty through and through. Go away John! Go play with the democrats. You have far more in common with them!
Why do we always start using the language of the leftists?
I know it's an easy habit to get into because we here the phrase ad nauseam but there is no such thing as "gun" violence.
A gun is a tool and an inanimate object.
If I hit you and murder you with a hammer, is it hammer violence?
If I am killed in a car accident is it vehicle violence?
Not picking on you but just using your post to highlight a pet peeve.
here = hear, oy.
Wasn’t Teddy Kennedy on one of those lists?
Exactly.
Because the criteria is completely arbitrary and you are not allowed to know why someone (including yourself) may be on it.
What this really is all about is for the government to have a secrete No 2nd Amendment Rights tool that they can apply to anyone they choose.
.
To do otherwise invites the world to witness his idiocy.
Unless my name is on the no fly list. Obama wouldn’t politicize the no fly list or the IRS.
No. The "no-fly" list is just part of the consolidated Terrorist Watchlist, the one that lawmakers want to use as a prohibitive factor to purchase a firearm. From the FBI's own webpage, the consolidated Terrorist Watchlist supports... "...the ability of front-line screening agencies to positively identify known or suspected terrorists trying to obtain visas, enter the country, board aircraft, or engage in other activity..."
By "front-line screening agencies" they can be talking about NICS and by "other activities" they want to talk about buying guns.
Give the government this power and everyone who wants to buy a gun suddenly becomes a "suspected terrorist" and is automatically denied.
Um, no. We all know the no-fly list is a mangled, mishmashed load of hooey. Most of the people on it don’t deserve to be, and most of the people who deserve to be on it aren’t.
