This just in: The majority of Republicans still don’t believe that President Barack Obama is from ’round these parts.
a new nationwide survey of registered voters that examines Americans’ belief in political conspiracy theories, Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind project found that 64 percent of Republicans think it’s “probably true” that President Obama is hiding important information about his background and early life.
Yes, even though the President has a memoir he released long before he became a national political figure and released his birth certificate and had his kinfolk attest to his story — ditto for the teachers, neighbors, and old classmates along the way — nope, none of that matters.
To be fair, 63 percent of Americans believe in at least one political conspiracy theory, though the others are far more common.
Other factors that have contributed to the lingering believe that Obama is secretly from Kenya? The fact that the President is constantly IMing Allah.
The researchers noted:
Generally, the more people know about current events, the less likely they are to believe in conspiracy theories — but not among Republicans, where more knowledge leads to greater belief in political conspiracies.”
Fairleigh Dickinson political scientist Dan Cassino, added:
There are several possible explanations for this. It could be that more conspiracy-minded Republicans seek out more information, or that the information some Republicans seek out just tends to reinforce these myths.

To be fair, believing that Obama is hiding information about his background isn't the same as being a birther.
I believ3 he was born in Hawaii but I'll concede we really don't know that much about his life before politics. I'm no birther but I guess I fall into the article's 64%.
Maybe 64% of Republicans were just simply willing to read the question. The fact that “...it’s “probably true” that President Obama is hiding important information about his background and early life,” is indisputable. They didn’t ask “Do you think Obama was born in Kenya?”

He used to like being referred to as the “African-born senator from Illinois”. It made him seem interesting, I suppose, and a bit exotic. Not saying thats proof of anything except that it suited him for people to think it.

All lies and jests; for instance, the white "girlfriend" in his biography turned out, at best, to be a composite...oh, wait!
Bottom line is this: if we were willing to stipulate that he was indeed born in Hawaii, then the inescapable conclusion would need be that the truth is so much more damning that he is willing to appear ineligible than risk being found out.

Well I;m not a Republican because I am a Conservative. But a lot of people used to also believe the world was flat. I’d sure be in the minority in that poll.
Maybe because we’ve never known of anyone else to spend a megabuck to prevent people from seeing a BC. Most of us just produce one on demand.

Don’t know if 64% are Birther or near-Birther....but the GOP and GOP Media attacking Obama Eligibility people kept a number of potential GOP voters home on election day....and GOP Talk Radio (many who show more disdain to “Birthers” the pro-Obama Liberal media) is losing audience and stations faster than Mexicans getting capped by drug cartels
Unfortunately to many in the GOP and GOP Media act lock-step/goose-step with Liberal MSM when it comes to Obama Eligibility...and still no legitimate Obama Birth Cert to prove “Birthers” wrong
In a related note, just 34 percent of Americans “correctly identify President Obama as a Christian”. I can’t imagine why people have so much trouble identifying a man who does not in any way act like an American or like a Christian as an American Christian. After all, the media told us it was true, and we all know how trustworthy MSNBC is.
