Pajamas Media calls Iowa race between Romney and Thompson
Red State ^

That's right Huckbots, while Brian Pickrell does not rule out a Huckabee win, he claims that the race is really between Fred and Mitt. As a supporter of Mr. Thompson, I'll live with Mitt as well.
According to Pickrell...
I find it hard to believe that Huckabee is actually leading in the polls here in Iowa. Every person I spoke with told me that theyre supporting Romney or Thompson and that everyone they knew or worked with (who are also Republicans) feels the same way. None of them have even considered Huckabee as a serious choice. It could be a fluke in the polling process or it could be a fluke in that I know people who are politically aligned with me and they, in turn, know and talk to others who think the way they do. Or it could be a little of both. I dont really know for sure.
I've been saying this all along. After much phone calling to Iowa, I've yet to talk to anyone who cites Huckabee as their #1 Rudy and John fans should not be offended, we know they have ruled out that state, just like it comes of no offense to me when I see Fred has no shot in NH.
Pickrell goes on to say...
As I mentioned earlier, the people I have spoken with are supporting either Romney or Thompson, and everyone they know is doing the same thing. They have seen little support for Huckabee. Either its a flaw in the polls or a fluke in that like-minded conservatives tend to talk about these things with each other (birds of a feather, you know).
Insert Huckabee screaming in a Deanesque fashion here... Yaaaaaaaah!

I could easily support Fred, but ever time I hear him speak my eyelids get heavy. I’ve been very disappointed with him. Initially Bob Novak’s early review of Fred really steamed me, remember that one? But you know, he was right. I hope his numbers REALLY pick up. I doubt it though. How would his laid back, summer hammock style campaigning go in general election?

One of my friends from Iowa the other day told me he was going to vote for Huckabee just for the fact that he was ahead in the polls.
My mom also likes Huckabee, but after I told her a few things about his record, I think she started to change her mind. She doesn’t live in Iowa though, she lives in Illinois.

In my view the overwhelming likelihood is that Romney takes Iowa — simply because he has spent so many months and millions of $$ there that he will probably be able to bus more people to the caucuses.
Thompson’s campaign has said that they’re shooting for at least third place. If he comes in second, it’s a huge win. On the other hand, if Romney gets anything other than a major victory, he may be in trouble. It’s an expectations game — that’s why Romney is trying to position himself as the underdog despite all the millions he’s spent.

Yes, he maybe or may have been slumbering, but ? remember what Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto once said :
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
Fred Thompson is a sleeping Giant, and once he awakes, FEAR THE FRED !!
The MSM is afraid of Fred awakening and winning the nomination and winning the general election.
It's Fred, and us against the MSM , we GOT TO WIN THIS for the sake of our country people.
The ONLY clear choice in 2008 is : THOMPSON/HUNTER ticket.
We the people have to stand up and fill in the void for Fred and get the word out by the word of mouth ( The MSM won't do it for Fred ), I have been telling people about Fred and most people I have talked to said ? really ? he is running ? I like Fred.
This is to Fred Thompson... Fred ? please awaken, search your heart for the strength and put your heart into this like Rocky.... You are fighting this battle for us and our country, FRED ? YOU CAN WIN THIS,,,, GET YOUR HEART INTO THIS !!
To: topfile
I have supported Fred from the beginning, since there was talk about his running for President.
I do admit, I got weary waiting for him to announce he was running and in the last few months of wondering what the heck was going on with his campaign , now it seems he has gotten back on stable footing and going for the prize for us.
Since he started to run, I have always supported him and never wavered, please my friend, support Fred, he needs us so he can win this fight for the sake of our country.
If Fred won't be able to help our country ? who will ?
I can't count on the other politicians to help this country and Fred is the only one I see who can pull it off with our help.
WE THE PEOPLE drafted Fred to run, and WE THE PEOPLE have to get Fred over the top to win.
The ONLY clear choice in 2008 :

Let’s hope Fred can get it going in Iowa and carry it through to the General Election. Watching his performance in the debates has been painful. Fred lost a lot of support in the previous You Tube debate where Huckabee shined.
Thus many former Fred supporters found a “fire in the belly”
Candidate they could see getting broad General Election support. I’m one. Let’s see what Fred can go do now as the spotlight is fading fast. History has shown that an IOWA wins translate into the next Republican Nominee.

It is beyond me that there are people who consider themselves serious about politics and conservatism who want an "entertaining" presidential candidate. If you are an adult, serious about conservatism, and have an attention span greater than two minutes, you have to grant FDT that he has interesting positions worth listening to. And his take no prisoners attitude is clear in his speeches and debate appearances, which should entertain even the most attention deficit individual.
The guy is not boring unless you simply refuse to listen.

Entertaining is a very shallow word to use. I would prefer words like inspiring, motivating, and convincing. Leadership qualities that Fred possesses infrequently to my utter dismay. I’m a Christian social conservative and I made no secret here that I like Mike, and could easily pull the lever for Fred as well. The truth sometimes can be difficult. But Fred needs more than conservative credentials and ideas but needs to connect with a broader range of Conservatives than yourself. If I say “the Great Communicator” who do you think of? Fred does not come to mind, at least for me. Reagan had a very good understanding of this concept. Fred SHOULD, and that’s whats so frustrating about him. “There he goes again” every heard that? How about “No hands today”. I’m sure even you enjoyed that. Fred needs a lot more of this to connect. But he waits until no one is watching. Further, it's important for everyday folks to identify with him. Maybe only Elite Conservative think-tankers are worthy of Fred. How much of the Electorate do they make up?

Fred is leagues above Huckabee in both conservativism and ideas. I thought at one point, if forced, I could possibly hold my nose and pull the lever for Huckabee.
Until I found out how soft on criminals he is.
NO THANK YOU!
And yes, if catchy phrases and slogans is what does it for you, then I’d say you are swayed by charisma and entertainer qualities. Personally, I prefer ideas, plans and platforms.
Which is where Thompson has Huckabee beat hand over fist.

You are very thinned skinned, aren’t you. Nobody “attacked” you....I explainted why I disagree and why I believe your judgement and probably your motivation, is in error.
Yes, Fred was an actor for a time. He was also a US Senator, Chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Watergate counsel, and author of the report, Government on the Brink, (Volume 1 and Volume 2) detailing the waste, fraud, and abuse of federal agencies as well as the management challenges facing the incoming Bush Administration. To name just a few of his other accomplishment, there are of course, many more.
Finally, we are just now about to begin the process of seeing just what appeal Fred has to the voters. These ridiculously early campaigns may well prove to count for little to nothing for those who started campaigning on November 6, 2006.
In fact, I hope it proves to be just that.
