MOSES LAKE, Wash. — The first flight of a hydrogen-powered airplane was a success this week, showing zero-emissions air travel could be on the horizon.
The 40-passenger regional airliner using hydrogen fuel cell propulsion took off at 8:41 a.m. Thursday from Grant County International Airport and flew 15 minutes, reaching an altitude of 3,500 MLS. The aircraft, nicknamed Lightning McClean, was developed by California-based company Universal Hydrogen.
[Busy little elves running on treadmills in the engine department]
I always thought we should use homeless people on treadmills and feed them meth pellets to generate energy.
Yeah, I am sure the Left will find some reason to cancel it.
It Probably ran on an electric battery and a platinum catalyst with a tank of hydrogen. The electrons in the hydrogen pop loose traveling over the platinum, and run electric motors and charge the battery. It works in cars now.
Lol, meth pellets and coke shakes
Re: The byproduct of burning hydrogen is harmless water vapor...
Whoops.
Water vapor is the most powerful green house gas in our atmosphere.
So am I, with 38 years as an employee and consultant in the industry.
It is a safe and reliable supplier of electricity.
[...water vapor...]
And the oceans are already rising!
If I were the first passenger on a new, experimental aircraft, not sure I'd want to be in the air any longer than that........LOL!
could be 3,500 milliliters per second, 3,500 Multiple Listing Services, or 3,500 Mary Lou Schwingenhammers.
Personally, I favor the Schwingenhammers.
Oh the huge manatee!
Hydrogen mines. They are opening new ones every day.
“3500 MLS”?
3500 (Miles?)
3500 (Multiple Listing System?)
Is there an Editor in the house? Hello?
I had the same thought.
Or ChatGPT because so smart so quickly that it became dyslexic.
I knew this wouldn’t take long.
To produce hydrogen, one must use a lot of energy. Some, but not all, of that energy is gotten back when the hydrogen is burned.
When they say “zero emissions air travel” they are deliberately lying. {obvious} The energy required to produce hydrogen is not “zero emissions.”
Water vapor is the #1 greenhouse gas.
I’m betting they haven’t thought about this: Hydrogen is stored in tanks under pressure. That’s a big enough problem at sea level. But when you go up to 30,000 feet, the air pressure is lower. The difference in pressure is greater. I don’t have to be a physicist to know that the problem of storing hydrogen in a plane in flight is greater than at sea level.
I know the “scientists” are poo pooing what I just said. I hope I don’t witness the first explosion and crash.
Before doing any thermodynamics analysis, it is easiest to simply ask if democrats oppose it. If democrats are not actively opposing it, you can be sure the idea will never be economically feasible
Every single time I have a logic-driven discussion with a liberal, about energy needs, it always, and I mean ALWAYS, ends up with them saying that root of the problem is too many people. So then I ask them which ones should be killed. They can’t answer that.
“biologically produced alcohol”
Anything that depends on sunlight (e.g., growing algae) will inherently have an extremely low energy density (energy produced per unit area per unit time). You cannot change how much sunshine hits the earth. All you can change is the area of the system and the duration of the process. The enormous land requirements and processing time for these bio systems means they will never meet any serious fraction of the nation’s energy needs.
It’s the same problem with solar cells and windmills (wind, after all, is a product of the uneven heating of the earth by the same sun).
Also...
Hydrogen powered planes will release most of their water vapor into the stratosphere.
First of all, water vapor in the stratosphere retains and reflects more heat than water vapor in the lower troposphere.
Second, excess water vapor in the stratosphere takes longer to clear than excess water vapor in the troposphere.
