Air Force Open to Sending A-10s to Ukraine for Fight Against Russia
Yahoo ^ | 21 July 2022 | Thomas Novelly

Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said Wednesday that some of America's aging A-10 Thunderbolt combat jets could potentially be given to Ukraine as part of continued efforts to help that country repel Russian forces.

"That's largely up to Ukraine," Kendall said. "Older U.S. systems are a possibility. ... We will be open to discussions with them about what their requirements are and how we might be able to satisfy them."

"I'm not aware of any current plan or even a discussion of a current plan to field or provide A-10s to the Ukrainians," Kendall said at the time.

The A-10, a big airframe with a 57 foot, 6-inch wingspan, has been in service with the U.S. military since the 1970s and has become beloved by troops for its ability to endure extensive damage while delivering ample munitions and still making it home. It was used extensively in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing close-air support for troops as it lumbered above at a max speed of 420 miles per hour, glacial by modern jet standards.

The AF has been wanting to rid themselves of that inventory, for quite a while.

The A-10’s would not last 2 weeks in that environment. (And I think they are really neat weapons.)

A-10s? Why not tactical nukes?! After all, we must defend Obama/Biden’s overthrow of Ukrainian democracy and crush the 3 states that seceded from Ukraine in protest

They’ve been trying to get rid of the A10 since at least the Gulf War - when general he-shall-remain-nameless was schmoozing for a competitor position on the board at some big post-retirement deal

The A 10 constantly redeems itself having many purposes. Once in a while a 2 ship flies over the backyard here en route to this clunky little base

The deal with Ukraine is all about corruption and money laundering but hey that’s what stolen presidencies are all about

And a complicit congress both parties

They impeached Trump for talking to the Ukraine president

But that was a whole different thing. Im sure.

The Air Force has always hated the A10. They hate ground support planes. They want to send them to Ukraine and replace them with F35s.

🇺🇲🇷🇺🇺🇦 The US is preparing for a compromise?

Today, Russia has given guarantees that it will not attack Odessa from the sea for 120 days, so that Ukraine can sell its grain and other goods by sea.

And here is the news that appeared immediately after that:

- The United States did not transfer aircraft to Ukraine, but only helps with spare parts for existing aviation - Pentagon

- The United States does not intend to provide Ukraine with ATACMS missiles (range up to 300 km), Biden’s national security aide said.

- Possible supply of US fighter jets to Ukraine is not considered in the near future - White House

— The United States and allies need Russian oil supplies to world markets, otherwise prices for it will rise again

— Lithuania resumed transit between Russia and the Kaliningrad region

“US Nat Sec advisor Jake Sullivan: We are not prepared to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles, ATACMS with a range of 300 km. Our key goal is to support and defend Ukraine, and another key goal is to ensure that we’re not heading down the road toward a 3rd World war”

I like this guy as he’s very complete in his arguments. In this link he’s suggesting that not only is the A10 obsolete but that it would be suicide to use it in a heavily contested air space where the side using it did not have air superiority. Also, where it has been used successfully, there was no real anti air abilities on the ground. Well worth a listen even if you absolutely love the A10, as does my Ex-Marine buddy.

A squadron of A-10s at the start of the war would have put an end to that convoy in short order.....

How convenient for the USAF princes who have long wanted to dispense with the uncouth Warthog. "Pete" Quesada is either turning over in his grave or saying, "I told you so!"

This administration will be ripping the the metaphorocal furniture and fixtures out of the entire DoD and sending it all to Ukraine before this is over.

So glad my kid is out of a uniform these days.

No no no, a thousand times NO! And honestly, I doubt anyone would go over there to train their pilot how to fly them. Lastly, that kind of deal would be tantamount to declaring war on Russia, and we don't need to be doing that.

The world has gotten so much more dangerous under the current regime in Washington, DC. This is just another example of that.

Lord Jesus, come quickly, PLEASE!

Remember that “doomsday clock”? The one that exists only when there’s a Republican president? The one that moves to one second before midnight whenever a Republican president speaks?

They seen to have forgotten about it now that we have an incompetent, irresponsible, America-hating, marxist who is never more than 5 feet from the nuclear codes.

Man. We should have allowed Ukrainians to serve in our military all along. Pathway to citizenship. Then they’d be better prepared to go back and defend their own country by training them on our weapons systems that could apply to their homeland situation. I understand some Israeli Ukrainians have done that.

Low life azzholes. They are always looking for ways to get rid of the best CAS plane we’ve ever had. Air Force sucks. They couldn’t care less that US grunts worship them.

Now I know from whence come the Ukrainian aircraft that are being regularly shot down by the Russians on the southern and southwestern fronts.
