Ohio State football proved it belonged, and will now attempt to show it stands alone.
The Buckeyes entered Friday’s Sugar Bowl against Clemson in search of a championship identity it had not yet seen on the field in 2020. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney questioned whether Ohio State should be allowed in the College Football Playoff after playing only six games. What had the obviously talented Buckeyes actually shown? Ohio State, and the rest of college football, now have evidence of that elusive, theoretical peak performance.
Justin Fields played with explosive efficiency that, with a few notable exceptions, has been the trademark of his Buckeye career. A rejuvenated Trey Sermon followed a dominant blocking performance to another huge rushing night. The Buckeye defense repeatedly turned Clemson back while the offense played its best first half of the season.
By its own admission, Ohio State needed to play its best game of the season to beat Clemson. By its own resolve, it did, rolling to a 49-28 victory in a College Football Playoff semifinal at the Sugar Bowl.

OSU played five less games. That’s a lot of wear and tare they didn’t incur like everyone else did.
The greatness of OSU football is their fakes. I pointed this out to my boys many times. They must practice, practice, practice. Many times they fool the cameraman. I don’t watch much sports for obvious reasons...but I can still appreciate amateur sports. The pros? Pfft.

ESPN - turn the sound off and watch the clown show. PROGRAMMING.
As an TOSU alum and casual Buckeye football fan, I must admit to deriving pleasure in seeing Dabo fall. Still I cannot phantom how a team that struggled with a weak Big 10 schedule could rise to the occasion.
Why do you want Dabo to fall? I’m not a fan of either team but Dabo seems to be a good guy.
“ OSU played five less games. That’s a lot of wear and tare they didn’t incur like everyone else did.”

OSU was obviously bigger, stronger, certainly more motivated than Clemson. The only team that can physically match up is Alabama. Should be a heck of a game; good old fashion smash mouth football...
BTW. Only redeeming value of OSU........Jack Nicklaus went there. 😂
Clemson is ACC, not SEC. You will have to wait for the championship game for a chance to see that happen.
Clemson is ACC.
The real question: Will Dwayne Haskins have any effect on the draft selection of Justin Fields.
How did the SEC get punched in the mouth? Clemson is ACC.
Now on Jan 11 OSU could do it but I think St Nick will have his team ready. RTR
‘Should be a heck of a game’
depends on whether Fields is healthy; because the Tide is going to hit him hard and often...with a healthy Fields, OSU should win it all...
btw, this playing for a title after a mere five regular season games is absurd; of course OSU had a tremendous adantage last night...but then again, having zero fans in an outdoor 70,000 seat arena when six feet distance is supposed to be the magic standard for safety is a clear example of how this ridiculous mitigation is about power and its primacy over common sense...what a farce our power structures and citizens have been the last ten months...
Pffttt... ACC. Dumdum...
Talk about a “major gaff”.
And being as rested as osu was they should be in better shape than Clemson.
‘but it is always enjoyable to see the smug SEC get
punched in the mouth as it doesn’t happen very often.’
‘smug SEC’...so I guess winning makes someone ‘smug’...
‘Talk about a “major gaff”.’
the jokes write themselves...
Yep.
