The only other person to talk more trash about The Ohio State is Jim Harbaugh. And they chickened out of their game with OSU claiming “covid” hoping to gyp OSU out of what just happened last night.

What a game!

Beyond Haskins, I can’t think of any OSU QB working out in NFL this century. I could be an effective QB on their dominate teams.

I hope they did an ultrasound or ct of his kidney. I expected him to be peeing blood after that hit.

"Why do you want Dabo to fall? I’m not a fan of either team but Dabo seems to be a good guy."

Swinney is a successful coach whose record speaks for itself. It is his whiney cornpone poor little ole Clemson shtick that gets old.

I wasn’t talking trash. It was tongue in cheek humor. 😂. OSU played a great game.

Clemson isn’t part of the SEC.

You derive pleasure from seeing Dabo fall? What on earth is wrong with Dabo, seems like a good guy to me. I’m biased to favor people that are outspoken Christian family men, so maybe there is something there I’ve missed.

OSU’s record of championship games against the SEC isn’t very good

Didn’t prove squat. Ohio State only played 6 games and now Fields probably won’t make the Alabama game.

Haskins is Urban Meyer’s legacy that keeps on being an embarrassment despite possessing a golden arm. Fields is a much more complete athlete and by all reports has a better work ethic. Yet the knock on Fields is his inability to quickly and correctly read defenses. That does not translate well into NFL success.

I just hope Fields wasn’t hurt so badly as to affect his sharpness. Gutsy kid! I fear though that he may have broken or torn something with that shot to the ribs/kidneys.

“What had the obviously talented Buckeyes actually shown?”

The games they did play were worthy. During the year they were fifth in the nation in total offense, fifth in team passing efficiency, fifth in rushing offense, second in rushing defense, and fourth in turnover margin. Their offense is quick strike as their running attack is listed at 6.0 per attempt.

But the real advantage to them is they did not play as many games to create as great an injury problem. Teams have been doing this at higher level giving players days off to nurse so they would be ready for the playoffs where the money was. The NBA is the biggest example of this. So while teams were playing hurt and not getting well, Ohio State wasn’t playing to get those injuries. I think that’s the biggest complaint being used.

The NCAA has never had to face this before and didn’t know what to do other than let it ride. Is it Ohio State’s fault? No. But the problem exists and it is determined by the money. Amounts of bowl games have been consistently growing over the last few years.

Prior to 2002, bowl game statistics were not included in players’ career totals and the games were mostly considered to be exhibition games involving a payout to participating teams. Despite attempts to establish a permanent system to determine the FBS national champion on the field (such as the Bowl Coalition from 1992 to 1994, the Bowl Alliance from 1995 to 1997, the Bowl Championship Series from 1998 to 2013, and the College Football Playoff from 2014 to the present), various bowl games continue to be held because of the vested economic interests entrenched in them.

So is the most important part to win? Think again. At the NCAA top level of football, the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS, previously known as Division I-A from 1978 through 2005), teams must have earned the right to be bowl eligible, generally by winning at least six games and by not having a losing record at the end of their regular season schedule. But what it turns into is exposure for the players for the NFL possibility, and money for the program. Forget the rah rah. It’s just business with a hype.

Besides Jack you could also have mentioned Jesse Owens.

It's like when a friend of mine who's a die hard Dodgers fan disparaged the Cleveland Indians and I casually mentioned that they'd had a few famous players, one of whom was named Cy, Cy something. Oh yeah, Cy Young.

PS: I respect the Hell out of Alabama. Clemson? Let's just say last night was a dish served cold.

re: "weak Big 10 schedule"

It's hard to make much sense of this year's regular season comparisons because of all the cancelled games and waves of players missing games because of positive COVID tests. That said, peering as best we can through the COVID funhouse mirror, I'm not sure it's accurate to say the Big Ten had a down year. The disturbance in the force is that both Michigan and Penn State had trainwreck seasons, while Indiana (Indiana!) was actually good. (Penn State will be back soon; Michigan, maybe not, but that's another story.) This year, IU, Wisconsin, Northwestern and of course Ohio State are all legitimate top 10 caliber teams. Wisconsin thumped Wake Forest 42-28. Northwestern whipped Auburn 35-19. Indiana with Michael Penix healthy was a threat to beat anyone. They lost Penix late in the season; without him, they out-Wisconsined Wisconsin to end the season, winning that game in the trenches with an untested backup qb. We'll see how the Hoosiers do today, but they're a good team missing a very dynamic quarterback.

Indiana and Texas A&M both got shafted on bowl games. Notre Dame had no business in the playoffs after being crushed by Clemson in the ACC title game. Once again, for the umpteenth time, college football needs an eight team playoff, and NO conference runners-up should be included. If you can't win your league, you stay home. If that means the conferences that have bulked up to two-division television marketing combines have to slim back down to traditional conference size, fine. That's overdue. All the power conferences should play a full round robin, with the winner going to the playoffs. Period. That would leave three spots in the playoffs for the best from the smaller conferences and independents. (Notre Dame would probably again go independent.) Taking a Notre Dame team that had just been brutally exposed while leaving A&M out was a joke. Slotting three loss teams into major bowls ahead of 6-1 Indiana, which gave Ohio State its only real test so far this year, was a joke. The people running college football continue to beclown themselves. They're all about the television dollar, nothing else.

“ depends on whether Fields is healthy; because the Tide is going to hit him hard and often...with a healthy Fields, OSU should win it all...”

Yeah, for sure. While not wishing that any player ever be injured; I didn’t see anything illegal about the hit. It was a hard hit but wasn’t a late hit and wasn’t above the shoulders. Thought it was a wrong call.

He led with the crown of his helmet. In the past, that was known as spearing. It has been in the rules since the ‘70s, but enforcement and penalties have increased in recent years.

OSU was obviously bigger, stronger, certainly more motivated than Clemson. The only team that can physically match up is Alabama. Should be a heck of a game; good old fashion smash mouth football...
+++++
I have to admit to not watching the Ohio State - Clemson game but I did watch Alabama just obliterate a pretty good Notre Dame team.

That Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith is just in another league. Amazing athlete. Beside his 3 touchdowns he made a leaping catch down the middle surrounded by defenders. The pass itself was perfect but very risky. You don’t see a play like that often and you need great players who are confident in their teammate’s ability to pull it off.

I find it hard to believe any team can beat Alabama. But it ought to be a great game.

Until they have a Championship of League Champions this is a fake Championship. They didn’t want OSU but were happy to have ND.

I’m old enough to remember when teams like Michigan, Penn State, and Nebraska were strong every year.

I wonder if Northwestern would have given Bama a tougher fight?
