I have a slight handicap (a bad - really bad - hip). For quite some time now Ive been looking for a hand-powered scooter. I dont want a hand-powered bike or trike. They are too difficult for me to transport.
Ive done many Google searches for hand-powered scooter. All I get back are electric-powered scooters results. I dont want that. If anyone knows about a good hand-powered scooter, Id be very grateful to hear about it.
How would a scooter like that work? I’m having trouble picturing what you want. How do you want your hands to power it—what kind of input?
I’ve seen guys on skateboards using a long pole to push them along, like a gondola.
All power scooters are hand controlled, if that is what you mean to say.

Thank you for your interest. Ive seen prototype hand-powered scooters that use a rowing motion to power the device. But Ive seen nothing thats commercially available. Hopefully, someone else has.
When you say, “scooter,” do you mean a stand-up scooter, or a sit-down thing like a trike?
BTW, that one costs $649.99.
That is called land paddling and would still involve a certain fitness level for one’s legs, hips, etc. plus falls are expected. For those able, it does free the requirement of having to push off with leg power and a Kahuna Big Stick or other land paddle can handle the uphill grades of those trails made from former railroad beds. If one does a few miles it gets to be a real workout and it is much more challenging to one’s balance than bicycling.

I need something that is hand-powered, as my legs wouldnt help much. My legs are just along for the ride, so to speak.
Have you considered hip-replacement surgery?
Hip-replacement surgery is a lot easier to recover from than knee-replacement surgery, and the results are excellent.
The accelerator is in the handle bars.

Thank you for that link. But unfortunately no kick scooter would work for me. The mind is willing, but the hip is not.
And Im not looking for an electric scooter, as it takes away the exercise benefit. Thanks anyway!
This is probably the closest to what you want:

Oh, yes. But a specialist has told me that such a surgery would be too risky, as it might lead to paralysis. On the bright side, I guess Ill be exempt from the draft when the next Civil War comes.
I think it looks like a board that has a platform about knee high so that you can put a knee on it and push with the other foot.
A wheel chair is about as close as you are going to get unless you build one yourself, or hire a bike builder to do it. They TIG weld custom frames all the time. Where your problem will be is steering while propelling it.

Any hand-powered scooter would do, stand-up or sit-down. At this stage, Im not picky! But it cant be as large as a normal hand-powered trike. I just cant transport those things. Theyre too big.
