A thick sludge of crude oil has been washing up on vast stretches of Brazils coast for nearly two months, and authorities and experts have been baffled by its origin.

The only oil I know of in that area that’s so heavy it takes special cracking plants to process comes from Venezuela.

My previous post I was addressing the statement in the article the oil is so heavy it won’t float on the surface, that it floats under the surface. That to me was a clue it was Venezuelan oil.

Oil + saltwater = tar. If it's fresh and shiny it comes from nearby. If it's solid in comes from further out. Neither one floats.
Texas Parks and Wildlife has a job where the guy drives down the beach collecting samples. (It's one of my dream jobs.)
