Kitten clings for life as man awaits rescue from Florence. The cat’s name says it all.
The News and Observer ^ | 09/15/18 | Andrew Carter

From his seat on the back of a small jon boat, Robert Simmons Jr. surveyed the floodwater in his neighborhood in northwest New Bern. The water, which spilled over from the Neuse River during Hurricane Florence, turned streets into canals, divided by rooftops.

It was waist deep on some of those streets, and deeper still on others. All around, street signs and trees poked through the water, offering landmarks to a terrain that even longtime residents now found unrecognizable. Simmons has lived here his entire life — 40 years — he said, and now he didn’t recognize anything.

“We done been through Bertha, Fran, Irene, Matthew,” he said on Friday afternoon, sitting in the small boat and ticking off the names of hurricanes that had come through his part of eastern North Carolina. “And this is the worst it’s ever been, in this part right here.”

Simmons recounted the story on Friday while a kitten peered through the top of his rain jacket. Simmons had taken the animal with him on the boat. The kitten clung to Simmons, as if a newborn clinging to his mother, and while Simmons spoke, the kitten mewed.

I feel sorry for the animals left behind not the people who chose to stay.

Kitty does not seem to be the slightest upset or afraid!

Can’t blame the father for staying. The looters would clean out what he has in minutes. Another news article posted at FR previously tells that story.

Of course, it meowed. It was cold and should have been put inside the guy’s jacket.

Grrrrr, once again, we’re hearing of pets left at home to drown. Humans are monsters.

It doesn’t appear this nice fellow has lost his home. So now he and Survivor will eventually return and live happily ever after, I hope.

It was inside the man’s jacket - you can see a photo of it if you click on it.

The mother of this cat is a feral; he adopted this baby and is in the process of socializing it.

“We done been through Bertha, Fran, Irene, Matthew ... And this is the worst it’s ever been, in this part right here.”

Hogwash. This is nothing more than some journalist gunning for a Pulitzer by over-dramatizing a natural disaster and yanking our heartstrings.

There have been a lot worse storms on the Atlantic Coast.

Typical drama queen fakenews. Kitten looks like it’s doing just fine to me.

Feral cats don’t know that they aren’t supposed to like to get wet.

Shouldn’t he be talking like a pirate? Oh, wait! That would need to be a parrot, not a kitten. Never mind.

Actually, he was lamenting the loss of all his stuff.

Th3 man with the kitten was the one who said that none of the other hurricanes put down as much water as Florence did. It wasn’t a reporter’s opinion

I was only saying that the kitten had been inside the man’s jacket before that photo. If you clink on the link, you’ll see that he was peeking out of the man’s jacket.
