An off-duty sheriff's lieutenant, his wife and a good Samaritan helped rescue a kitten after he ran through traffic on the 60 Freeway in the Diamond Bar area and then got stuck in the engine compartment of a stopped vehicle, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
Lt. Min Dinh, a 31-year veteran of the department, and his wife, retired sheriff's Lt. Jenny Ha, were driving home from church on the westbound 60 near the Grand Avenue exit on Sunday when they saw a woman sitting on a blanket in the emergency lane. The couple pulled over to help with what they thought was a disabled vehicle, Dinh said.
But the woman, Cathy Chang, told them that she saw a kitten running across the freeway and immediately stopped her vehicle.
Dramatic dash camera video from Chang's car released by the Sheriff's Department on Facebook showed the feline narrowly avoid getting struck as he darted across the freeway.
After navigating safely to the right shoulder, the cat ran under Chang's car and into the engine, she said.

Yea Kitty!
Thats a special kitty. I hope he gets a good home.
He is down to 8 lives now!
We will somebody be nuked by Iran or China or North Korea or whomever, but nobody will notice, as everybody will be reading stories like this.
These stories are all warm and fuzzy.......until they cause a 10 car pileup and someone gets killed.
Cats are tough. We were traveling south bound on a divided four lane highway last year when a cat ran across in front of us, went flying across the grass median, and between the two front tires of a north bound car. It banged around under the car a few times and flipped back out onto the median between the front and back wheels. It sat there a minute and then went sprinting across the north bound lanes the same direction it was headed before colliding with the car and didn’t even slow down. That would have broken every bone in a dogs body.
Wow. I’ll bet he used up four five lives there!
An occasional feel good story on this forum is a-ok. If the kitten’s name is not Dodger, it should be.
Me, too.
He’s a little orange tom and they make the best pet cats!
How many lives is that?
You need a kitten ;)
Needs a Viking hat.
Aaaah, the cuteness!
I agree! Our orange cat is so entertaining and sweet. And he doesn’t fight cats. Nor is he interested in catching birds or mice. Funny funny cat
It seems most orange cats are boys. Every one I've known has had a great personality.
I think they mean ‘into the engine compartment’. NOT possible to ‘get INTO the engine’.
Does anyone have any skills in simple English any more?
Ping!
