PITTSBURGH - A man armed with a machete robbed a bar early Monday morning in Pittsburghs Brookline neighborhood, police said.
The robbery was reported shortly before 2 a.m. at Brook-line N Sinker on Brookline Boulevard.
Police said the machete-wielding man walked into the bar and demanded money. He then jumped over the counter, grabbed the cash register and ran away.
No injuries were reported, but according to witnesses, there were at least six customers inside when this happened.
An undisclosed amount of cash and other items from the register were later recovered, police said.
One person was detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made, police said.
Some community members fear that the robber is still on the loose with a machete.
"Frightening. Thats frightening and can do some real damage with a machete. Real damage to a person. Thank goodness no one was hurt," resident Walt Tambellini said.
Just sayin'.
It’s hard to carry a machete around without everyone looking at you weird. I don’t mean they’re weird, I mean.
A guy walks out of a bar with a machete in one hand and a cash register in the other...

...and then the chimpanzee says, there’s gotta be an easier way to get change for a twenty.
Okay, I’ve got an opening line and a punch line. Now all I need is the “set-up”.
And that is especially true when you have a cash register tucked under your non-machete-wielding arm.

Something must be done.
I can walk into any Big 5 and walk out with a Machete.
No background Check, no Age Limit, just more proof that our Constitution must be changed to protect our Children and Bar Patrons.
I believe it is time, as in England, to ban the knife especially high power or high capacity knives like the machete or electric knives. These killing machines have no place in modern society and serve no useful purpose other than to kill other human being. fortunately we do not a constitutional amendment protecting the right of citizens to bear knives nor do we have a National Knife Association who relentlessly defend the people and the constitution from overzealous politicians who use every incident to try an disarm the citizenry. This should allow the ‘Ban the Knife” to proceed with any meaningful opposition. That is unless someone starts to question stupidity. then we are doomed. {sarc} in case it is necessary.
I think what is needed here is common-sense machete regulation. After all, nobody needs an assault machete.
Gun-free zone? Hogg’s Head Bar?
That was my thought too. What the heck has happened to Pittsburgh!
Everything old is new again.
I would suggest reading old news articles from the twenties and thirties.
To make a long story short, my brother-in-law is from Honduras and his brother once used a rifle to block a campesino's machete attack before he was able to use the final round in the rifle to kill him...(This was back in the 50's) The other rounds in the rifle had already hit their targets and this was the last campesino standing........
