Really sad that the little girl died, but if ths was an emergency why not go the the Emergency Room to begin with? Or, if it was such an emergency, why not be at the doctor's office early?

She says she warned them she might be late when she called the clinic. How many millions must the doctor pay based on her word?

In a socialized "single payer" health care system you
shall be where you are told to be
when you are told to be there or you will suffer the consequences.
All sarcasm aside, though, what motivation does a doctor in a socialist system have to perform any work outside his assigned shift?

Dreadful story. And I’m sure no British doctor ever keeps a patient waiting.
To: nickcarraway
That’s what you get when the government is in charge of medical care. It is the only option, like the DMV, and doesn’t care if you don’t like the service. There is no other place to go for better service.
The NHS is in big trouble. The American media deliberately and intentionally refuses to let the American public know about the insanely long waits for medical care.

I assume even if she did arrive on time, she’d have sat in the waiting room for 2 hours, like usual.....

The 5-year-old girl was reportedly not seen by a doctor, despite having an emergency appointment, because it operated a "10-minute rule." I dont know how things are in Britain but I can tell you I have waited more than an hour after my appointment time to see a doctor numerous times.
If a doctor refused to see me because I was a few minutes late we would have words. I may end up with a disturbing the peace charge but we would have words.
If he refused to see my sick kid because we were a few minutes late I might end up with a destruction of private property charge after I broke up his office furniture.

The coroner plans to write a letter to the health board and the clinic in hopes of addressing the tragedy and preventing similar situations in the future. You can't sue the government so a mean letter is the best you can do.

Emergency appointment?
Isn't that an oxymoron? Can I schedule an emergency appointment with the fire department, too, for when my house catches on fire?
