UPDATE: From the Daily Caller just now: "House Agrees To $1.6 Billion For Border Wall."
ORIGINAL POST: The media crashed and burned last night over a Democratic Party lie about a deal on amnesty for some illegal aliens.
After a dinner with the president, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer said, We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, thats acceptable to both sides.
There is no deal. The president said so this morning. Pelosi and Schumer jumped the gun because they hope to gain leverage in a situation in which the president holds the trump card.
Everybody who panicked about this Fake News was a fool. That includes Representative Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, whom I like.
A lie travels around the world before the truth puts its shoes on.
People who railed against President Trump for "caving" made two mistakes.
They believed Pelosi and Schumer. They believed the media.
Me? I trusted President Trump.
I read their statement and knew it was a lie, or to be kind, an embroidery of the truth.
The reason tip-off were the words, "excluding the wall."
Of course the wall was excluded.
It's off the table.
President Trump has authorization for it. A 2006 law made it so. He is not going to relinquish that authority.
But there is no Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals law. It does not exist. DACA is an executive order, at best a blanket use of prosecutorial discretion.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions called it as unconstitutional.
Trump let the Pelosi-Schumer lie slide until this morning. He literally lost no sleep over it because their lie helps him in negotiations, and that is what they are doing: negotiating.
The only agreement they came to was what to talk about.
He made it plain to them that the wall is not negotiable.
Today, he tweeted:
"No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote. The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built."
Got that? The wall is off the table.
Pelosi and Schumer's bargaining position is weak. They are in the minority.
But they do have a position, and they seem to be surrogates for Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell. Either man could stop a floor vote on any agreement
This is a do-nothing Congress. Donald Trump's is a very active presidency. Contrast and compare. Congress needs leadership. Trump will provide it.
Meanwhile, anyone who said he caved on the wall is a fool.
That includes Representative Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, whom I like.
Oh, yeah. I remember Steve King. He’s the buffoon who got up there at some kind of rally for Cruz and flat out LIED about Trump’s comments about illegal immigrants.
Of course. The left is playing those with NeverTrump tendencies on the right for suckers. You’d think “we” might have learned something from the primary and “won’t get fooled again”...but no.
“Resist” is now “Divide and Conquer”.
No deal YET.
Trump desires an amnesty deal.
Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!.....
Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they cant, I will revisit this issue!
Absolutely correct. Right wing snowflakes can melt in hell.
DJT has been screwed by his own party. He’s realized that the GOP is just about as corrupt as the DEM’s. The GOP is a little more to my liking, but just a little more.
The negotiations have begun. Let’s see who “caves”. If I wanted to negotiate a favorable “deal” then I would want Trump to do the negotiating on my behalf.
Very true and we must start to zot them on this forum. We have our own form of snowflakes.
Some never learn....
Trump desires an amnesty deal.
What part of Trump’s statement that there will be “no amnesty” didn’t you understand?
Citizens of other countries who broke into our country deserve no accommodation.
They have been ripping us off for decades.
If we do not hold the line, the rule of law and the country will be lost.
No new laws to benefit those breaking them.
We did that in 1986 and what was supposed to be an amnesty for less than a million became 3.5 million.
Illegal aliens are now 10 times that number.
When they say 11 million, we know it is 30 million or more.
The 800,000 DACA will become 2 million plus and then it will be impossible to remove their parents (who trafficked them across the border), uncles, aunts, cousins, etc.
But, but, but......What about the gold medal for conclusion jumping? ;-)
This is far from over and far from being settled.
Quite a few of those types right here on FR. Then again, maybe they're not getting fooled, maybe they're paid Deep State provocateurs...
Zot those who stand for the rule of law?
Has this become a Trump adulation zone where no criticism is allowed?
AMEN & AMEN!!!
“Trump desires an amnesty deal.”
So you have the ability to read minds?
If/when President Trump says he wants an amnesty deal you get back to us, k?
Purging anyone you disagree with isn’t a very conservative position.
I’m pro-Trump, and I don’t think he has “betrayed” us or broken any promises. But I do have an honest question.
What is the difference between “letting them stay” and giving them amnesty or citizenship? If you “let them stay” then they will continue to get all of the many benefits they get (free education, etc.) and we even have places pondering resolutions to let them vote.
What is the difference?
