Kimberly King 1996 Honda Accord was stolen on early Friday morning.
A man allegedly stole a car approximately 30 seconds in a Clairemont neighborhood and the entire theft was caught on video.
Kimberly King spoke exclusively to NBC 7 about the bizarre theft that left her rattled.
On Friday morning around 8:40 a.m., a man walked up to Kings’ 1996 Honda Accord parked on the street on the 3900 block of Mount Albertine Ave. in Clairemont. Surveillance video shows the man jiggling with the lock of the car, opening the door and then driving off down the street.
“Almost like he picked my car and in less than 30 seconds, it was gone,” King said.
She told NBC 7, she is confident she locked her car, which is why she is so shocked at how fast the man was able to break in and drive off.
“It just freaks me out. Someone is walking the streets and just picking cars out,” she said.
King said she’s a mobile hairdresser and kept all of her equipment inside her car. At the very least, she said she wants her stuff back.
NBC 7 contacted the San Diego Police Department about the incident but has not heard back yet.
But according to the California Highway Patrol, the 1996 Honda Accord was the most targeted in car thefts in 2014 and 2015.

Yet another reason not to live in that shythole.
He did not pick a lock. He used a key. Dummy keys for a 1996 Honda work as easily as the original key. Anyone that has a 1996 Honda that does not also use the club or some other similar device is asking to have their car stolen. It is just way too easy to get in a car and drive away
Did she produce the keys? When the vehicle is found and if there are no signs of it being broken into/tampered with, no theft settlement for her.
Just bought a Dodge Magnum Hemi and *I* can’t touch the friggin thing without it waking the dead.

She can kiss it goodbye. The police are not interested in recovering stolen cars or prosecuting the thieves.
Friends of mine had their car stolen and it turned up later in a parking lot. IIRC, they got it back because it had been towed for being left too long. At any rate, there was plenty of identifying info left by the thieves (papers which all but named them), but the cops had no interest in pursuing it.
Wow that sounds like a scene straight out of The Big Lebowski.
Prosecuting doesn’t Generate Revenue or Oppress the Masses, unless the perps are loaded with cash and confiscateables.
Why a ten year old car?
I think it’s actually a 20 year old car that’s worth a lot more for it’s parts if the body panels are straight.
Hidden “kill” switch. Absolutely the best deterrent. Put in the fuel pump circuit. If you launch it immediately some cars will make it almost 100 yards before dying which leaves it right in the middle of the street.

Daughter has had 2 cars stolen. A Honda right out of our driveway. When the police found it in a lake they came and told us so we could turn it into insurance. That’s it. The other one was a brand new Acura stolen right out of her garage when someone broke in her house and took everything else she owned. The police barely even remembered to write the car on the report. About a week later some homeowner called the police because they noticed it had been sitting in a parking lot by their house for a week. The police told her to go get it and that was that.
All our police do about ANY stolen property is write a report so you can collect from insurance.
Apparently, they only made about 3 different keys for that car.
OK the REALLY bizarre part is there’s a car next to it with similar fender flares.
