My best friend from college did this - divorced his wife, found some young thang, and is now traveling the world. Sadly, we all have to come home sometime.

"...Everywhere I go, I meet such diverse groups of people. In hostels, Ive shared beers with friendly British and Australian twenty-somethings. In hotels, Ive sipped wine with friendly British and Australian forty-somethings. We all became lifelong friends, despite the language barriers...." As a long term recipient, against my will, of The New Yorker I was prepared to hold you and this article in disdain.
Turns out I disdained incorrectly.

Im a free spirit, whose father owns a South American rubber empire. Or you're a spoiled brat who has never had to commit to anything, or work for anything, in your life.

Maybe not, if you get $60,000 per month forever for doing nothing.

Another benefit of the Obama/Jarrett economic plan. More lifestyle choices, less jobs.

Yeah, that’s what I suspected. All it takes to be a “free spirit” is an enormous trust fund. Who’d have thunk it?

I did something along these lines...but with one or two noteworthy differences.1) I decided long ago to do some serious traveling during my vacation time (4 weeks...good employer) and 2) I only started the traveling as an avocation *after* I retired.
To do it the way the author describes is a bit self indulgent IMO.
