When did Free Republic posters turn on Ted Cruz?

Posted on 02/19/2016 6:03:16 PM PST by hardspunned

I've come to this site every day since Ted Cruz became a national political figure. Perhaps I'm just getting old with a failing memory but I can't recall any derogatory posts about Cruz until Donald Trump began his ad hominem attacks on him. I don't remember Freepers attacking him as he built a record in the senate.

Can someone direct me to the threads and posts by the Freepers who now hate Cruz that were made prior to September of last year?

The back-lying issue is some hate religion and those that dare mention it. Like people that put “Do not Bother” signs on their front porch hoping to keep Mormons from knocking on their doors.

That is fine and dandy, but suddenly they have a candidate out of the blue that claims to support some of the things they liked about conservatism and whamo Cruz is suddenly the boogieman.

In 2006 this previously played out on Freerepublic with a lot of the hardcore atheists. Lots of FR members formed another website called DarwinCentral. It may still be around, not sure.

Part of the problem was JR kept a “Pro-God” notice on the frontpage of FreeRepublic. Since then people that have a bone to pick with religion try to do it more on the sly. You see today lots of “Bible Thumper” comments but usually it does not escalate into a full blown tirade against religion. But the irk of religion vs those that don’t like anything mentioned religious still rides under the covers here.

JMHO.... take it for what it cost you.

Wow, you must really give considerable deliberation and due diligence to all of Trump's actual words that he's used too, huh? Unlike Carson and Cruz, Trump's all over the freakin’ spectrum of possible interpretations. But I'm sure you already know this too.

That is, I would trust him as much as any other politician, maybe a little more. Way far more than I would trust Trump with my family investments. To continue as Senator or President, he still has to garner the vote. Trump doesn’t.

Cruz apologize for Carson, I don’t recall God ever saying we’d all be perfect even after the Cross. If this were an ongoing thing it would be one thing, but it’s not.

75 posts and no takers. Ted Cruz must have been OK before Donald Trump started. Ted Cruz is the same guy with the same positions as when everyone around here supported him.

Uh what gives??? Why did you bother post a thread asking a question...Get a lot of answers...from many including me...and yet you ignore all those posts and now say:

75 posts and no takers. Ted Cruz must have been OK before Donald Trump started. Ted Cruz is the same guy with the same positions as when everyone around here supported him.

As I said before, he was not OK with me long before Trump came on board, and he was not OK with a number of people on the H-1B Visa ping...and others from this thread have said the same as well.

AGAIN, JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: DUE TO HIS 500% H-1B VISA INCREASE POSITION, I AND OTHERS ON THE H-1B VISA PING HAD MAJOR ISSUES WITH CRUZ BEFORE TRUMP CAME ON BOARD. Others have said same thing. Cruz was not OK before Trump entered the race.

They didn’t mean that one female parent could move to another country, live there and be married to a Cuban national, give birth, receive a Canadian birth certificate, live in Canada with the child until he was 4, then move to the USA where they did not apply for US citizenship for Ted until 1986 when he was in high school (obviously they knew they had to formally make him a citizen at this time for college and housing etc.) and of course Ted pretended not to know anything about his dual citizenship until 2013. THIS IS NOT NATURAL DAMN BORN! YOU ARE INSANE IF YOU THINK THIS IS OK.

There’s no perfect candidate.

But Cruz is the closest I can find in the current lot.

Other than that, politics is a blood sport!

Go Cruz!

I sure haven’t turned against Cruz. Mainly, because when I think back to all the multitudes of politicians I’ve voted for since reaching voting age, Cruz has been virtually the only one I cast my vote for who has genuinely followed through on what he said he’d do. And indeed suffered withering attacks and vilification from all directions, including his own Party, for this. That counts for something with me. Counts for a lot, in fact. Enough that it pretty much overwhelms a couple of things I’ve strongly disagreed with him over (H1B being a glaring example).

Indeed, I’m leaning towards going with Cruz in the primary, even though Trump’s stances/platforms are probably closer to my own positions. Mainly because I see Cruz as ‘tested’ when it comes to making principled stands. I’m not sure I really ‘trust’ Trump. His history is all over the map. His words are good, but his past actions and activities do not inspire confidence in me. I have this nagging, uneasy feeling about a potential Schwartzeneggar-Ventura redux. But not that all this matters a whole lot to me, these wacky Trump/Cruz battles. My main interest is just seeing a dagger placed in the heart of the slimeball GOP-E.

That’s YOUR good reason, but you may not know that this is a conservative site.
