If you'd like to see the previous post in this series FR search using the key words Asian Movies
There are two movies this week. Both are free to view.
I have gotten probably 15 request to put Kung Fu Hustle in one of these so here it is
Kung Fu Hustle 2004 https://youtu.be/UAzHYVXUARU Stephen Chow et al Comedy Violence, nudity some strong language Also available on Netflix
Notes about the film. If you dig around in academic databases you can find that couple of academic papers were written about the use and abuse of Chinese religious tradition. Notice the location of Catholic Cathedrals in the movie
The baker, the Coolie and the Taylor are all people out of Chinese, Buddhist mythology as are the landlord and land lady and the Beast.
There is a English language pun that runs though out the film. Because the main characters are based upon mythology. Mythology=Faerie Faeries is a term used to describe homosexuals and this explains the veiled and not so veiled homosexual sub theme in some of the characters. The movie is equating ancient Buddhist saints with homosexuals
The film had to be subtitled in Hong Kong and China because not all the actors speak the same language. Some of the lines are in Cantonese, some in Mandarin and some another Chinese dialect that I don't understand
Princes Iron Fan 1941 http://www.bnwmovies.com/princess-iron-fan-tien-shan-gong-zhu.html
Actors unknow Animated Comedy - Drama Religion
This is an animated feature about the travels of the Indian or Tibetan monk that spread Buddhism into China. His three traveling companions are called Piggy, Sandy and the Monkey King. Chinese religion is strange and the epic Journey to the West from which this is taken no exception
Enjoy
One of the most awesome movies I’ve seen is the Japanese “Taiyou wo Nusunda Otoko” (The man that stole the sun) - it was written by an American, and filmed in Japan in the 70’s.
It’s about a high school chemistry/physics teacher that builds his own nuclear bomb after stealing plutonium from the Fukushima reactor and holds all of Tokyo hostage.
It is one hell of a ride from beginning to end.
Im a big fan of Kung fu hustle and also Kung fu soccer. Both by chow,,I wish I could find more.
Shaolin Soccer, I believe.
Bump.
Mother (2009)
Widowed for a long time, a mother lives alone with her only son. He is 28 years old, a shy and quiet young man. In the aftermath of a terrible murder, the womans hope- less, helpless son becomes the prime suspect. There is no real evidence against him, but the police throw groundless suspicion at him. Eager to close the case, the police are happy with their cursory investigation and arrest the boy. His defense attorney turns out to be in- competent and unreliable. Faced with no other choice, his mother gets involved, determined to prove her sons innocence.
here is a site where it can be watched in 6 parts...

I like good older kung fu movies, set in old China, with the styles clearly defined, no wires. Some I like for the drama and escape to another time and place, others about the fighting or the strange/sadistic training practices the master will put the hero through, LOL. I’ll watch a bad movie if it shows a style I like. For instance I like Northern Tiger and there seems to be no such thing as a hero who’s a straight Tiger stylist but in many movies the villain is a Tiger man. I read a book that gave an idea why that is, but ten different books tell ten different stories. Love old school Tiger moves if you see a YT video that shows quite a bit of them. Even if it’s the bad guy.
I will put that one on the list Thanks
I do actually look at the suggestions people give me for these and have a quite long list that is getting longer
If anyone knows about Indian movies let me know as my experience is more Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and China
My rules are simple
Asian movies are made in Asian by Asians
I try not to recommend films with the same actors two weeks in a row
I really prefer movies that are available for free
Save The green Planet!
Lee Byeong-gu (Shin Ha-gyun) is convinced that there are aliens from Andromeda among us, plotting to destroy Earth. He believes that Kang Man-shik (Baek Yun-shik), the head of a chemical production company, is their leader, and he kidnaps him. Holing up in his secret lair, Byeong-gu interrogates and tortures the supposed alien, hoping that he will confess to his crimes against humanity and call off the planned destruction of the planet before it is too late.
You could several films each week, one could be “Movie of the Week” while the others are “suggestions” (quirky films that some people would like)
I don’t know much about India films. I do remember watching one about a man who had to find the woman he loved before her father forced her to marry someone else. Turns out her family was quite wealthy too.
The strange song-dance routines were interesting.
The Japanese remake of Unforgiven was directed by a Korean. Actually it was really good.
I didn’t know there was one. I’ll have to look that up.
Ken watanabe is a big eastwood fan and even starred in letters from iwo jima. Eastwoood gave the go-signal himself.
If you decide to a Bad Asian Monster Movie Theme post, you cannot forget to include Yonggary (1967), lol. It was bad.
