If you’re a government, you repudiate it. It happens fairly frequently.
A debtor with 10 CVBG’s can cancel anything they want.
Quite often that leads to war, though. And Obama’s shrinking our military while Red China is building theirs up. Red China buys up our debt as a weapon to be used against us anyhow, so any default plays into their hands automatically.
The Chinese make enough around the world to take a hit. They don’t hold our entire $18 trillion debt.
They’d squash a “revolution” and go full boat military while closing the South China Sea shipping lanes, etc. You think we’d do anything to stop them?

How do you know they wouldn’t use nukes? They’ve hacked enough of the US military systems, so it may be that a counterattack would be hobbled by them. Very few US generals/admirals would think to take matters into their own hands too (in spite of Sun Tzu’s advice to do so when appropriate), given Obama’s reorganization of the top brass.
And why does it seem to me that you presume that Obama has the nerve to take them on?
Our enemies would absolutely love a bankrupt America, because then it’s a relinquishing of superpower status while one of them steps into the role. Once Pax Americana ends, there won’t be a pax-anyoneelseica; it’s war.
