... The defensive end's sexual orientation probably had less impact on his draft disappointment than a poor workout at the annual combine, where scouts assess the upcoming NFL prospects.Source
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Sam was considered a possible mid- to late-round pick as a "tweener" -- too small for an NFL defensive lineman, too slow for a pro linebacker...

He should never have been drafted, he was something like the slowest and most lumbering player there was
The author's basic premise is flawed. He says because everyone is terrible that Michael Sam was good enough to play.
What it really says is that Michael Sam was really not very good at all if he couldn't find a place on a roster of terrible defenses.
New NFL player position would have to be created. “Loose end” would be an appropriate name.
So Cydney is trying to make the case that being a poofster is a pass into the big boy’s league? Hell, Sam ought to be glad he didn’t get tossed out there, maybe vs. something like the Steelers’ offense and he ends up looking like Beetle Bailey after Sarge stomps his ass into a mud puddle!
I wonder if a star homo player actually comes along in a major male sport how he will be received. I don't think he'll be received very well. I doubt even many libs would like the idea of their favorite player(s) being seen sucking face with another male.
Well this was predictable.
He can only play wide receiver.
The perpetual victims screeching again?
“Waaaa! Our chance for politicizing the NFL and alienating its fans so the league can crash and burn has been derailed!” < /Leftists >
Yep. His coach said his play was poor. Damn fags and their LGBT pals always spread BS.
Even the liberals in Canada don’t want him in the CFL.
Definitely too slow. There were post snap shots circulated at one point. 21 players had moved. One was still in his stance...
This guy’s full of nonsense, but his writing “niche” is, by his own website “one of the world’s preeminent experts on sexuality and sports.” In other words, Sam being cut because of a lack of NFL level talent leaves Zeigler nothing to write about or to “advance the cause.” So, I’m not surprised he’s continuing to wave the bloody flag and scream homophobia where none exists.
Sam was a good college player who just doesn’t have the skills to play at the NFL level. It’s just as simple as that. After his bad performance at the NFL Combine, he’s luck to have been drafted at all. And both the Rams and the Cowboys gave him plenty of opportunity to make the team.
Fixed.
Uh, Tim Tebow was the BEST player in all of College Football (he won the Heisman and a national title) and HE hasn’t been able to “cut it” in the NFL.
So, exactly what makes this dumba$$ think that Sam should be playing in the NFL?!?!
He is too small and too slow, and he brings a carnival-train sized load of “baggage” to go with his slowness and diminished size. Hell, there have been world class, NFL-proven players who were dropped from teams because of their baggage, so there is no guarantee to play in the NFL, even if you are of the newly “protected class” known as LGBT!
Here is what he should have done: stayed in the closet. That way, he would have failed on his own, which is what he would have done.
The NFL is to a large degree, a meritocracy. If you can’t do it in practice, you won’t play. And if you do get on the field and don’t produce, you won’t be on the team. There are some exceptions, but bottom line is making money, and if you can’t attract fans by winning or playing good football, you won’t make money.
If they were looking to attract 2% of a population that probably derides most sports anyway, it isn’t a good business model, when you are sure to alienate a larger population that has no interest in watching someone play simply because that player enjoys having other men insert sexual organs into other men.
It is pretty simple.
He decided to openly play the homosexual card, because it gives him an excuse for failure. His choice.
Read the same type of irrational statements about Tebow when he was cut.
Yep...big difference between college and pros. I remember when the Giants took Ron Dayne (RB, WIS) in the first round in the 2000 draft: I hated the pick. From watching him in games and on tape, I thought that for a big guy he never really ran over people, always juking and dodging tacklers. I would have expected more of an Earl Campbell type, but this guy was one-dimensional and did not take tacklers on. But, he might still have the high school discus and shot put records in the state of New Jersey.
