LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) A Los Angeles City Councilman Wednesday announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in the hit-and-run death of a recent UCLA graduate.
David Pregerson, 23, was fatally struck on Dec. 27 on Chautauqua Boulevard, north of Borgos Place in the Pacific Palisades, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The driver of the car drove off after the collision, failing to stop, render aid, or identify themselves, officials said.
The victim was later found in the brushes off Chautauqua around 3:20 a.m.
Pregerson, who was an aspiring film producer and the son of U.S. District Judge Dean Pregerson, later died from his injuries on Dec. 31.
The $100,000 reward is made up of equal funds provided by the victims family and the city council.
Anyone with information on the suspect should contact the LAPD West Bureau Homicide, Senior Detective John Skaggs at (213) 382-9470.
It appears like some people are more equal than others.
One law for us in the peasant/slave class and a different set of laws for our masters.
I wonder how often this city council contributes to a reward fund such as this ...
Anybody ought to be free to offer whatever private reward he wishes in the furtherance of whatever good he wants, but this one got put up partly by the council. Unless the council has a standing policy to match all such rewards, it does seem a little odd. C’est la vie injuste....
This was an aspiring Hollywood star!
Now what if it turns out to be some illegale schmoe?
They do in some cases, but I don’t remember it being quite this much money very often (if at all).
Of course, but to the families of most murder victims in L.A., ten thousand dollars would be an impossible sum to offer -- let alone ten times that much.
And this guy, to all appearances, was not murdered but was in a traffic accident which may even have been his own fault.
Sounds to me like a pedestrian struck.
And the weird part is the city council. I don’t think we should be playing games of envy with regard to private parties. Life is going to be unequal on this mortal coil and that is a conservative given. We could say “oh, a rich family” and go on, but is LA that rich and why wouldn’t it do it for anybody?
Yes. Pedestrians are frequently the cause of their own demises.
Another poster may be right. They may have a policy of matching every private donation.
Dashing out into traffic, being drunk and stumbling out, etc. Nothing’s said about circumstances though, and we can’t assume. And the law is clear, even if you caused accidental injury, you must stop and attempt to render and summon aid.
The only smelly part here is the city council. If it did this for everybody it would soon be bankrupt. THAT is favoritism which isn’t from God.
And they seldom see rewards that big. If it becomes a problem (this could remain a mystery till kingdom come) then they might need to put a cap on it.
I’m counting on it. I hope the identification comes soon, so the limolibs can stew in it throughout the campaign season of 2014.
The only thing that could top it is if the perp turns out to be a state Demwit politician, or some doped-up Hollyweirdo.
Liberal self-embarrassment. If there is a God, it will happen.
And I mean yes there is a God. But this is the kind of thing that we expect to see when God is begged to show that He cares for justice.
Aspiring film producer?
No loss.
Smart phone zombie?
Or an illegal alien.
He was the son of a US District Judge. So...not a peasant. A scion.
