Now that’s pretty cool. Can it work without the smartphone app?

I was sitting at an intersection the other day and say a biker blow through a stop sign and thought, I you could put a flywheel or something on the bike to store the braking energy and give it back when they took off, maybe they’d be more likely to obey the traffic laws.
Now I find out these #()$&*&*($ stole my idea before I even thought of it.

This product was sewn into the series “Weeds” on (Netflix for me.) I thought it was a cool idea, but assumed it was fiction since the show was fiction.

For those who don't want to watch the video, it is a battery, motor and regenerative braking system integrated into the rear wheel of a bicycle to turn your bike from human powered to hybrid human/machine powered. I didn't see if it had external charging so that I can claim it's hybrid, but just let a coal fired power plant do all the work for me while I exude smug for being an environmentally friendly biker.
The ordering page at https://www.superpedestrian.com/ listed it at $700-$800, depending on model.

Is it a torture devise?
,.................
Anything that's likely to add more bikes on the road is absolutely a torture device!

Agreed! It’s also dangerous. There’s nothing quite like trying to get around a cyclist who is slowing down traffic on a two-lane road. They ought to be considered road hazards.
