IF you had cereal for breakfast or just scoffed a sandwich for lunch, maybe don't read this. Because grains are destroying your brain, according to this doctor.

David Perlmutter, a renowned neurologist and president of the Perlmutter Health Center in Naples, Florida, says there's a close relationship between lifestyle, our modern diet and dementia.

Dr Perlmutter, who has just released a New York Times best-selling book Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar - Your Brain's Silent Killers says it's not just unhealthy carbs that should be cut.

That's it. There's nothing left to eat that is healthy for you.

He didn't mention bacon and chocolate specifically. Phew!

I won't make an opinion until Mooshelle tells me what to do.

Bacon, chocolate, and Guinness to wash them down!

He is onto something. Alzheimers sure could be diabetes 3.

I think his carb % is too low, but under 100g carbs a day would be,good to shoot for. And definitely up your healthy fats.

You mean we were supposed to have stopped?

ROFL! Yes, I’m starting to view the concept of “being a burden to others” in a whole new way.

Maybe I should cancel my long term care insurance and buy a bread machine with the premium...

He’s right.

And the grains we eat today are even worse. They are GMO—modified to be “Roundup Ready.” I.e., they aren’t killed by Roundup.

The unnatural proteins in GMO grains are killing us. And the glyphosate from the Roundup is killing us. Together, they are shutting down one process in the body after another.

The Food Pyramid, and other government propaganda, are based on the needs of agribusinesses and their lobbyists, not science.

I am doing my best to live on tuna, grass-fed beef, free-range eggs, and grass-fed milk and grass-fed whey protein.

You can still type horseshit though. Fingers must be OK. Pity, that.

He says the risk of Alzheimer's disease can be reduced by adopting a dramatically lower carbohydrate diet (below 60-80 grams daily), adding more fats - such as extra-virgin olive oil, coconut oil, grass-fed beef, and wild caught fish - to the diet...

I do the paleo thing myself, so I generally agree with the spirit of the article, but how the heck do "wild caught" fish magically have more beneficial fats than, presumably, farmed fish?

Same here. The wheat we have in today’s bread is not the same as it was during Jesus’ time. It’s genetically modified and contains bromide which is dangerous to the thyroid. I only eat grass-fed meat which I get from my neighbor. Even some fish, especially tilapia, is injected with hormones so you have to watch out for that. Only get wild, not farmed.

I know this is not popular here on FR.

To me, it all boils down to one thing. A frugal diet is the key to longevity. There’s just no reason to eat the amount of food that we’re accustomed to when you could live on a fraction of it.

I can’t figure that out.

BTW, much of the Talapia eaten in the US is from China.

Go three days without eating, you might get a feel for what many people feel all the time. Sadly eating doesn't seem to offer much relief, but people sure eat in an attempt to get relief. This notion is not popular either.

the best diet is one where you are hungry before you eat.
