71 is the new 27.

I hadn’t heard of The Violent Femmes, but at one time I sort of liked Blind Melon.

Figuring out what to eat tonight. Roast beef in the frig or drive to Trader Joe’s for a salad.

On a sad note:

John McVie diagnosed with cancer.

He made his mark. Lou Reed influenced two generations of musicians. I am not a huge fan but he put out some great tunes with the VU.

The guy looked to be in good shape after the liver transplant and looked a hell of a lot better than Keith Richards. I am surprised he didn’t make it.

What a shame. Liver cancer means you are going to be dead. Pancreatic cancer the same. I suppose it can be delayed via chemo and such. Liver is your major detoxification-filtration-waste disposal organ so when it has cancer you have problems.

One of the measures of his influence is that both prog rock and punk (anti-prog rock) can trace their lineage directly to the VU.

As far as “covers” go, I’ve always thought the Cowboy Junkies doing “Sweet Jane” was the best of them.

Without question.

For what it is worth.

Blind Melon, “No Rain”, is a great song, but even the band said it was a “POP” tune that missed the point of the rest of the album.

Understanding the context of this album, I think it is one of the best albums ever produced.

Keith will outlive us all, if he hasn't died yet, then nothing can kill him.

Iggy Stooge will outlive Keith and David Bowie put together. Bowie is the only one who cratered out on stage with a heart attack. What did he expect from chugging down three packs of cigarettes a day for 40 years? So Bowie fled into retirement for a 10 year chill out. Just put out a new record after ten years and it sounds depressing and nothing

RIP. Condolences to his wife, Laurie Anderson.

I can't imagine what it was like under one roof, with two extraordinary musical talents.

Seems like an odd paring. I didn’t know they were married until yesterday.

Indeed. I don’t follow the personal lives of celebs, but I do know, I love Laurie Anderson’s work. It *speaks* to me.

One line, I read somewhere, is that they connected on a *spiritual level.* That, I can understand.
