A man from Poland found a screwdriver impaled through his forehead but only after catching his reflection in his cars rear-view mirror.
The 25-year-old was doing some work in his garden when he lost his balance and landed on the Phillips tool.
However, he only noticed something was sticking out of his head when he looked in the mirror after the fall.
Rather than screaming in horror, though, the unnamed man calmly lit a cigarette before asking a neighbour to help him get to hospital.
I dont remember what happened that day, at some point when I was working in my garden I slipped and fell down, said the man, who didnt want to be identified.
Next thing I remember it was my hand hurting and some weird thing near my eyes.
The impact was so hard the screwdriver managed to penetrate five centimetres into the front of his head.
Luckily for him, the tool missed his brain and became lodged in the frontal lobe of his cranium.
Surgeons at University Hospital in Bialystok managed to get the screwdriver out after operating for three hours. Amazingly, the man is expected to make a full recovery.
I’m guessing this guy was ‘hammered’.
And he didn’t even get “nailed.”
At first he ignored it because of the sticker on the mirror that read, ‘objects stuck in your head in the mirror may be closer than they appear’.
The moral of this story is ‘don’t look in the rear view mirror!’
LOL, well it only took 3 posts for you to say that, but I knew someone would.
“Luckily for him, the tool missed his brain and became lodged in his frontal lobe”
Whut?
This story reminds me of Keith Richards (Rolling Stone) falling out of a coconut tree a while back.
Lucky for him he landed on his head.
Report doesn’t mention which side of the cranium the screwdriver came from. Better take an MRI to see if they missed something.
Journalism majors don’t take too many anatomy classes.
So ,what procedure do Polish Hospitals have that requires a Screwdriver to be in direct contact with the Brain?
I thought 'Screw loose' was just a metaphor!
Ahhh!
Dunno, but I'll bet it's mandatory under 0bamaCare.
Phillip needs to be more careful with his tool.
Not the first time a man’s tool almost got him killed.
Yep, I'm always losing tools, too.
Next time I misplace something, such as my sawzall, I'm going to look in my car mirror in case it's stuck in my head.
So true. When the weather is bad we like to watch the Investigation Discovery channel. Tools get fellers killed on there all the time.
The old story of Phineas Gage (who had a crowbar blown through his head) shows that massive head damage doesn’t even necessarily result in loss of consciousness.
Talk about being screwed. I’d still rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. If he’d kept going, he would have gotten the full Rose Marie Kennedy.
About 25 years ago I actually had something similar happen to me, but on a smaller scale.
I was cleaning rust off of a metal part with a wire wheel on a bench grinder. I felt something hit me in the forehead and I stopped momentarily to look in a mirror, but I couldn’t see anything. A week later I developed a a pimple-like bump that started to itch. Another 2 weeks went by before it started looking worse. That’s when I went to a doctor. At first he though it was a small boil and tried to lance it, That’s when we discovered something hard and metallic in the center. He gave up trying to use tweezers and grabbed onto the end of the metal with a pair of needlenose pliers. What came out was a 2 inch long wire that had come loose from the wire wheel.
So then the frontal lobe is not part of the "brain" there in Poland???
You can dig 5 centimeters in and not find any brain matter???
